Highlights From Our March Retreats

Dearest friends,

We are back in Cuenca.

We are getting ourselves back in gear after a very busy March in the states. Sometimes I go through a slump when we return to Ecuador. Blah. Things are beautiful and good here, but it’s a drastic transition every time to leave family, friends, and familiarity. I’ve been making my way back to our routine here.

You know I’ve been thinking about this blog and feel excited to get back to it…  ðŸ™‚

For today, a few highlights and photos from the (3) Love Boot Camps we just hosted in the U.S…

  • Nearly 75% of our attendees at all the retreats came via RECOMMENDATIONS from past guests!!! I’d say we’re getting somewhere! That was hugely exciting for us!

  • Here we were just after the Brooklyn retreat. We looked like this ^ but actually felt like this cute couple sitting across from us on the subway…

  • I wondered if the one-day retreats would still be top-notch, compared to our two-day events last year. I mean, could we teach everyone enough to make them feel it was still worth it and “life changing”?! Would everyone feel a similar feeling of community and hope? The answer is YES. The 1-day experiment totally worked. We got crazy good feedback like we did with the 2-day events. Also, it allowed more people to come due to work and childcare. We will likely not go back to the 2-day retreat.

  • One professional therapist who attended told us we HAVE to get our curriculum ready to be taught to other therapists. She said she does her thing, but that we have something so amazing to add and she would LOVE to incorporate it into her practice. We have had many others request the same thing. We are actually super excited about the possibility of doing this.

(Here we got to gather in a lovely atrium in Las Vegas.)

  • 5 retreats in 2016 have been/will be in the homes of readers/supporters/alumni! That is A DREAM to us to join forces with these good souls who have become a part of this movement. It also saves us substantially on our costs, which helps this effort to continue. So THANK YOU X A MILLION to those who have been able to help!
  • Some people that came on heavy recommendations from friends or spouses were SKEPTICAL. I think really skeptical, in fact. But, during and after the retreat, they just couldn’t stop raving about their experience. They told us again and again and AGAIN that it was EXACTLY what they needed. And that they had no idea how good it was going to be. Heck yeah. I love hearing that.

  • A 22 year-old guy (in college) came to our retreat in Salt Lake. He has read the blog for years and wants to be on a loving path. Um. Amazing!!! We were all so dang inspired by him. I wish I had a match maker as part of this blog because to put any two of you together on this path – as friends or partners -would be just about the best thing on earth.

  • Our voices survived this tour, unlike in the past. We drank our favorite homemade tea non-stop with SLICED LEMON + SLICED GINGER + HOT WATER. Oh my goodness. That drink is the most comforting bit of heaven to me. You have to try it. (We like these thermoses that keep liquids hot for 12 hours.)
  • And, here are some words we’ve received from our guests. We’re so grateful…

“It was one of the most beautiful weekends of my life. Love you all! Thanks for inspiring me.”

“Thank you for sharing your beautiful work with love. My experience this weekend was life changing.”

“I don’t have words about the impact you’ve made on me. This day was life changing. I’m feeling so empowered to share this light and love.”

“An amazing, uplifting, inspiring weekend. I loved every second.”

“Through mentoring with you and coming to this retreat, you have saved my life.”

“You have blessed my life 100%.”

“Such a beautiful day with you all. I’m still floating ❤”

“LOVE…you taught me Love. A new way, more hope.”

“I have been filled with new hope and purpose today.”

“You’ve changed everything for me in the most wonderful of ways and I can’t express in words what that has done for me.”

These retreats sound wonderful. The one day option sounds great and I hope to be able to attend one.
I would like to try the hot water with lemon and ginger. This is silly, I should be able to figure it out myself, but how much lemon and ginger do you put into what amount of water?
    : )

      So glad you asked…
For one cup of tea we do 1/2 lemon and about 3 very thin slices of ginger. We squeeze the lemon juice into the water first and then put the whole thing in (with the peel) so it can all steep for a few minutes. It's delicious! Other ingredients I've been wanting to try adding to this: a sage leaf, a cinnamon stick, fresh mint leaves.

And yes, yes, hope to see you at a retreat!!

Serious question: Do you consider yourselves to be therapists?

    • mara April 6, 2016 at 3:54 pm - Reply

No, no…we aren't therapists at all.

We view ourselves as mentors, coaches, or friends to people who could use some added support while trying to heal. We use life experience to teach people principles that have been helpful for us over the last ten years. People offered wisdom and love to us in our times of need, and so we are passionate about passing that on to others. We share many tools and paradigm shifts that have made the biggest difference for living a happy life and handling difficulties with empowerment.

If someone is in need of treatment or diagnosis for mental illness or mental disorders, however, they should absolutely seek treatment from a therapist. What we offer could be an added piece of support if someone resonated with what we do, but it is not a replacement for treatment of mental illness.

First of all you hair is beautiful, Mara! 🙂 I am so happy to hear that your retreats so far have been wonderful. I am looking at the one in Mesa. I really want to come with my husband. So, that is my goal.

Ah, thank you, Ruth! I got my hair done in Brooklyn before all our retreats. It was suuuch a treat as these days I'm only getting my hair cut about twice a year when I'm in the states. I can't believe how long it's been getting! Though I kind of like it. I usually have my stylist take off quite a bit when I get it cut so there's plenty of room to grow. But I didn't do that this time so it will be even LONGER soon, so we'll see how that goes…

And, how we would love to have you in Mesa!! Fingers crossed that it will work out! XOXO

    Hi Mara and Danny
Have you considered filming some of your retreats and making the content available online? Being from Australia, it's a little difficult to attend your retreats in person, but I would happily pay for some form of online video content 🙂

On a more general note, I absolutely love your blog and want to acknowledge and thank you both for all the work and heart and soul that goes into it.

We are working on that! The goal is to have a well produced online class by the end of the year. We're working with a really great team, currently the focus is on website redesign and creating a site architecture that could house the online classes. Once that is complete, we'll start focusing on recording content. Some of it will be video, and some will be audio+ visual content.

I am definitely hoping that we have something released or at least seriously in the works before year end. All this is one step at a time, though, and things often take a little more time than we originally anticipate. Content will probably be a six week course or something to that effect, with 1-2 hrs of instruction weekly, and printable curriculum to support learning and application.

We've made some really wonderful connections over the last year, and expect to bring on someone who's spent years as a researcher in adult stages of development to round out what we offer. We really look forward to putting out something that is POWERFUL.

So grateful for your support, and for your enthusiasm to learn. We're doing our best to advance this all along, we've known what we wanted to do for years, but finally have a team in place to help us carry it all out.

      Much love!

I have been reading your blog for years now. Mara and Danny thank you. Any time I am struggling I go back to a few of my favorite posts for inspiration and encouragement. I really feel like both of you are with me in my journey to living a life of love. Thank you for the constant support and positivity.
I would love a matchmaking service 😛 If you know of any great men(in Phoenix) in their 20's set me up. I'm a recent grad (who now teaches third grade) trying to live out what ya'll are preaching. kidding, but not really:)

Clare – thank you for this note! So nice to connect. And wow – so glad there are some posts here that you've liked. It is nice to feel like we're in this together. 🙂 Any support we give is worth it to us. I've always said if any of this could help one person to change the course of their life, it would be worth it to me.

And amen to the match making!!!! I seriously want to make this happen. I need to mention it to our team who is helping us now with the new site. We need a little forum of sorts where people could meet up – even just as friends – or future lovers. haha. I say why not. K, thanks for the note and the thumbs up on this idea. 🙂
