Our New Event Website Has Launched! (Registration is OPEN)

Putting it out there feels like a bud about to burst.

And yet we don’t know yet what color it will be.

But it doesn’t matter. Because doing this feels good. I can’t even tell you.

It feels like a new beginning.

I mean, planning these events is the biggest thing we’ve ever done since starting the blog.

It’s so, so incredible to see this all come together.

And dang, I can’t tell you how nice it is to have a new, fresh place for all the events. (Go see, go see!) It’s almost as good as seeing the first hints of spring in Central Park. Or spring cleaning my home so that it feels new again.

We are so, so excited about this new season we have ahead!

And we truly hope to meet you soon in the U.S. or Ecuador.

1. Spaces are limited across the board.

2. We have an early bird price: $100 off the U.S. Tour until May 1st. (Enter code: LOVE2015) Yay!

We love you all a bunch. Your support of this work means the world to us.

With love,

P.S. How do you like the new site? Do the events look appealing? I hope so! Take a look around and then leave us a comment and let us know. We’d love to hear what you think.

Is the cost per person or per couple?

    • mara April 3, 2015 at 4:12 pm - Reply

Hi Rebekah – thanks for asking. The price is per person. Though in VT, our longest U.S. event, there are couple prices listed. (Also, if someone books one of the airbnb rooms in San Francisco, Phoenix, Chicago, or Brooklyn, the room price is not per person. The price is per room and all the rooms have beds for 2 people.)

I have the same question as Rebekah^^. Coming up with $1600-$1800 for a 2 day retreat (with less than 3 months notice) might just do more damage to our relationship than the retreat can do good. So, yeah, clarifying that might be good.

Love the new site! I was already sold on coming to Ecuador! Now I'm trying to figure out if I there's a friend I could talk into going to one of the US sessions as well. Great job you two 🙂

YAY!!! So awesome, Sarah. We can't wait for you to experience the retreat in Ecuador! And thanks for sharing the U.S. events with your friends. XO

    Is there a couples price?

    • mara April 3, 2015 at 4:21 pm - Reply

Hi dear Jenny! There is a couples price listed of the Vermont event. The Inn there gives a couples price for the rooms so we were able to pass that on to the guests. Also, if someone books one of the Airbnb rooms in San Francisco, Phoenix, Chicago, or Brooklyn, the room price is also per room (not per person) and the rooms can hold up to two people – so couples are welcome for those overnight stays!! (Including the extra mentoring and having dinner with us, etc.) I hope something will work out. We'd love to meet you!!

Oh man, I would really love to meet you both! My husband and I are discussing how we can get to your SF retreat, it's our anniversary that weekend and I can't think of a better way to celebrate it.

The site looks amazing! Nice job. I'm so glad that more and more people will get to partake of you. 🙂

Amanda! Thank you SO much! You have been incredibly good to us and the cause behind these retreats. We thank you so much for all the love and support and will never forget our time together in Ecuador. Much love to you. XOXO

The new site is great! Was hoping to attend the Salt Lake one, but it's a bit out of our price range right now. (That's not a complaint, just bummed we won't get to do it.) Hopefully another time!

    • mara April 3, 2015 at 4:34 pm - Reply

Darn – wish you could attend this one. Know that we have big visions and lots of hopes for the future. If we can pull it off, we'd love to have various types of events at different price points. Right now we have to do just one thing at a time. These events are more inclusive and retreat-like with meals and venues. But we hope to have offerings that can meet the budget needs of a wider range of people. XO

You're going to be in Salt Lake the same time as me and I so wish I could come to the retreat. My husband and I are taking a retreat of our own though that same weekend and leaving our son with grandma while we take a couples vacation to Seattle to just focus on us. One day we'll make it to a retreat though!

Congratulations! I love seeing your hard work pay off and dreaming become reality 🙂

Oh, Sandra – thank you! Your positivity is so nice. It's been an unbelievable amount of work (& heart) to get to this point. And we've learned SO much. It's been such a good experience personally, as a couple, as a hopeful sustainable endeavor, etc. But we're super excited, super hopeful. We feel we're meant to continue this work. We're giving it all we've got. Much love, Mara

I was so excited when I heard your initial plans for these events. However, the price is much higher than I expected it would be. Are you planning to do any talks in the next year that would be more moderately priced?

    • mara April 4, 2015 at 2:09 am - Reply

Hi there! We WOULD like to figure out a way to have some events at different price points. Though I don't anticipate that will be in the next year as right now we have many retreats on the calendar. We have found that our classes are much more effective for people if we have at least multiple days to go in depth opposed to a shorter lecture or a shorter workshop experience – so that is why we scheduled the events as we did. Though that leads to the need to rent a venue for a day (or two or more) and meals and snacks. The expenses do add up. But we do feel it's truly the most effective to meet for a longer time. The 2 day events will be packed solid and intense with LOTS of info. and classes. Though we want them to still feel enjoyable for people – with healthy meals and a beautiful experience. But, anyway, know that our main goal is to teach and meet and help as many people as we can. So we hope that over time we'll have more options in place.

Wow! This must feel so HUGE! How very exciting. I would love to attend one of yor retreats in Ecuador but it's not in the cards this time around. Hopefully next time!

Sarah, we'd be so, so happy to have you someday! The first retreats were SO amazing for everyone that it is truly our goal to continue these. I hope someday the stars will align. 🙂

How many spaces do you have at the retreats? Like is it a smaller, intimate event or are there quite a few people? Also could you explain a little more why you chose this price point?

    • mara April 6, 2015 at 10:08 pm - Reply

Hello! Great questions. The space availability will vary according to the location. But the typical size limits are about 15 people. In VT, we have 9 rooms at Snapdragon + 3 rooms at the Parrish House. So…the events will definitely be more intimate, which was a very deliberate choice. We have found that when we teach, it's so, so nice to have a smaller group as there is time for questions from the audience, deeper understanding and more lively discussions. It's also so nice to get to know everyone on a more personal level during the workshops – and to walk away feeling like we actually have a real connection with people. We also find ourselves chatting and mentoring non-stop in between workshops, during lunch, etc. It is our desire to be able to spend time with each person individually and offer all that we can. Regarding the price point – because of the smaller, more intimate groups, it's necessary for us to cover our costs, which are so many at this point. It's quite an operation to host events (there is a need for multiple employees at this point, venues, food, deliveries, website, graphic design, taxes, travel, transportation, and of course months of time and preparation, etc.) Also, we have found that doing workshops over two days (at least) is ideal as we have so much information to share. We could have done a one night lecture for 2 hours or something with no food and fewer costs. But we truly want the experience to be THE MOST beneficial for the guests. We've designed these events to be just that.

Some day we *may* consider doing events for much larger groups at a lower price point, but that would not be anytime soon. Right now it's just one thing at a time. And right now we feel committed to being able to provide the BEST experience that we can for each person that attends! We want the events to actually make a difference in people's lives. 🙂

I don't know if my comment went through. So sorry if you get this twice. Anyways!! I have been wanting to come to your Ecuador retreat since you first started doing it and I think the October one would finally work (I should be done nursing my babe!). Do you have couples pricing? If you do, that would be the thing that made us definitely take the leap to come! Also, what city is best to fly into and do you have any tips on getting good airfare deals (best city to fly out of in western US, for example)?

    • mara April 12, 2015 at 2:42 am - Reply

Kami! So happy to get this email.
We would be SO THRILLED to host you in Oct. And what a cool thing to do to start a new phase after newborns and breastfeeding. I think it's such an empowering experience for anyone going through a transition. And – couples pricing – yes!- we've been wanting to announce a similar offer as we did before (for Ecuador) and planned to announce it this week. This time wanted to offer $500 for anyone who brings a second person with them. Please use Code INVITE2015 for just one person. The city you fly into is Quito (the airport is about 1.5 hours from the property). I know many Quito flights go through NYC, Miami, Chicago, and Houston (w/ American Airlines, United, Lan, and Tame.) Western U.S.cities may fly through Panama – and use a Panama airline (Copa). We use a Utah based travel agent who is currently in Ecuador for an extended period as he specializes in Ecuador travel. He can often get about $100 off a flight (depends on the departing city.)
