Interviewed By…

UPDATE: There was a glitch with the broadcast of the radio show on Monday, but you can now listen to it at the link below.

On our anniversary we were interviewed by the loveliest radio show hosts, Ashley Rogers and Michel Blanchard, for a show called Overseas Radio Network. They run the channel relevant to the country of Ecuador. It’s still crazy to me to think of us as expats. And it’s still crazy to me that we live in Ecuador!! You can hear what we have to say about it here. Though a lot of the interview is also about our blog. We love being able to share tidbits about our lives as bloggers.

It was really fun to meet Ashley and Michel. Ashley is from New York (!!) so I felt right at home. She and Michel also run a company called “Ecuador at Your Service” and they provide real estate and interior design services to people here in Ecuador. You can see that Ashley’s apartment was worthy of the write up she got in the NY Times (I am still dying over that staircase, the courtyard and the bathtub with the huge skylight above). If we can find a place to settle in more long term here, it’s my dream to have them help us with getting some pieces of furniture made, finding rugs and painters and appliances (they have all the connections). We left all our furnishings in New York so we’ll soon be starting from scratch here in Ecuador. I’ve basically never furnished a home without Ikea, DWR, Craigslist or NYC street finds, so this will be a completely new experience. 🙂 I’ve been collecting home ideas like crazy on my Pinterest board.

Hi I just started looking at your blog–it has some great insights and you seem like great people. I am just really curious as to how you ended up in Equador and what you are doing there–do you guys work for a company there or were invited for something? Sorry, I am just a little lost on this and I don't know if you mentioned it on a post somewhere and I totally missed it. Just trying to get up to speed!

Hey Anon – I'm linking to a few posts that might give a little more background on the decision –

Or you can look at all the Ecuador posts here –

Plus, the interview that we linked to above has some info right at the beginning about the decision for the move.

Short answer – I quit my job because so Mara and I could be joined together in sharing this message. The blog really doesn't make much money at this point (we have quite a few visitors, but probably don't do a good job of monetizing that)…so if I was going to quit my job then we needed to go somewhere where our rental income could support our entire life. That meant some place in South America or Thailand :).

So living in Ecuador allows us to devote a little more time and gives us the freedom to get a little more creative with how we help people understand Love.
