Love Announcements

I'm blogging from the most comfortable, heavenly bed I've ever slept in. I'm at Snapdragon Inn and this place has won us over completely. Our guests will arrive later today and I'm so thrilled we all will get to cozy up here for some discussions tonight. A glass blowing class is also on the agenda for later today. Sometimes I can't believe my life! And just a note: the local maple farmer here has tapped the trees and will be sugarin' (making syrup) in the sugarhouse in about 10 days to 2 weeks when the temperature should be just right. It's an event that you can watch and be a part of, in case you'd like to come visit. Snapdragon would be thrilled to host you.

A few love announcements today!

-Here's a map of where people have requested events (click the link to zoom in). If you'd like to add your city/state/country, please let us know as we'll be working on planning out a few trips. Believe it or not, we are going back to Europe this August! It's unexpected and for a "work" trip and we're so thrilled because we can add on some more events in other countries. So, please get in touch with us if you'd like. We'll also provide a schedule for some U.S. cities as soon as we can. And one location on here that I keep thinking about? Prince Edward Island! (One of our readers from there has an amazing story to tell and just started a blog about it. She is also opening up a shop on the island. Sending her best wishes!)

-After the last IVF, my dear friend sent me a gift. I'm still blown away by her kindness. She sent some books that I just LOVED to pieces. I cannot recommend these enough: Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh (I wish I could give this to every single one of you) and Help, Thanks, Wow by Anne Lamott. The dairy free / gluten free chocolate from Casa de Chocolates in the Bay Area wasn't bad one bit, either.

-Loved this idea to rent bins for a move. Genius. It's such a greener way to make it all happen.

-I got this Egyptian cotton duvet from Amazon recently (based on the reviews) and I have LOOOVED it. The cotton is so, so soft to the touch that it feels like you're sleeping in a cloud. We love it so much that we are taking it with us to Ecuador.

-Still thinking about purging so much of our stuff and how freeing it was and I can't help but say...Make it a tradition to have a stoop sale / yard sale / donation day EVERY YEAR! Also, if any Park Slopers want to help a hard working 15 year-old kid save for college, let me know. He has started his own stoop sale business and will come to your door to pick up all your donations. He came and picked up tons of stuff from us and it was such a relief.

-Will you be watching the Oscars? So excited that Ellen Degeneres is hosting - she makes me want to watch it. The only best picture nominations I saw were 12 Years a Slave (it was amazing, heart wrenching, and inspiring beyond words) and Captain Phillips (such an unbelievable true story of pirates attacking a shipping vessel). What other nominated films would you recommend?

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

With Love, Mara

  1. I love a Gift from the Sea too! My mom bought me mine own copy several years ago because she wanted me to read it and knew that I wouldn't want to part with it again after reading it. :)

  2. Will you ask Snapdragon what mattress, topper and bedding they use? :)
Also, add Hong Kong to your visit list! We are here and would be happy to host! It's also an easy stopover from somewhere else.

  3. Monument Men was a wonderful film, but I think it's a 2014. Either way, I recommend it!

  5. Mara & readers- We are moving to London this summer and would love ANY tips about international shipping. We aren't taking many belongings at all, but unfortunately it will be more than we can fit in our suitcases. I'm dying for help with this!

P.S. An event in London, or maybe Ireland? :)

    1. I wish I had some advice. Maybe some readers can chime in? We're only taking suitcases to Ecuador so we haven't tackled the "container" shipping details.

And yes, we'd LOVE to come to London or Ireland. That would be amazing.

    2. JoJo, my husband and I just moved from Vancouver, Canada to Copenhagen, Denmark. We were in the same situation as you and went with UPackWeShip. We had about 8 boxes of things, which fit on one of their 'platforms'. It was easy, inexpensive compared to other options, and they handled all the customs stuff that seemed daunting. It took about 6 weeks for our things to arrive in CPH. Our things were also delivered directly to our door in CPH. Best of luck with your move!

    3. Thank you so much for taking a moment to share that Julia. I can't even tell you how valuable a personal suggestion like this is as opposed to wading through website after website. Then again I probably don't need to because you probably remember! :) Thanks again.

    1. I *JUST* got a new laptop. It was kind of a big deal for me as I've always had a desk top. But due to our upcoming travels, I knew I needed to be mobile. I got the Macbook Pro by Apple and I've been so happy with it. Danny has the same one. I'm writing from my laptop now while riding on a train through New England. :)

  7. You MUST see Philomena. Such a sweet story of forgiveness, even in the worst of circumstances.

  8. Although I live in Germany now, I am quite thrilled that somebody from my native Poland has requested workshops with you guys. Amazing! I hope you go there, 'cause your message is definitely spreading. Personally, this blog teaches me to value my relationships and take better care of myself (also spiritually). Your blog post, Mara, on birth pill is (IMHO) one of the best and earnest I have read in a while on the Internet. Thank you very much for your "online presence". It does help a lot of people!

    Lots of love from Karlsruhe!

  11. Oh Mara and Danny, we would love to host you in the Barossa Valley, South Australia. Not sure if you got the message. We have a gorgeous little cottage in our vineyard and can help with organising your workshop. Kirsty and Nick please feel free to email on nick@rrwines.com.au when you are ready.
