Design Inspiration from Scandinavia

Copenhagen just about did me in. The design there is my favorite on earth. Just in the airport alone I could happily furnish my home.

Here's a scrap book of snap shots I took while I was oohing and ahhing in Scandinavian shops. Doesn't hurt to have a little design inspiration for some day (if we have have a home again! ha.)

See more after the jump...
These pillows are right up my alley. It was hard passing these up.

Clocks here by Georg Jensen.

Blocks by Hay House. I love them.  I kind of want to try making my own.

Fun dishes from Illums Bolinghus (the best department store on earth!!)

Loved these containers with chalkboard on the outside so they can be labeled. Genius.

Famous Holmegaarde Danish glass. I have (4) Holmegaarde vases already. I think I need some more. :)

Loved this old fashioned glass and it seemed a little modern in these colors that pop.

I never tire of bold typography!

Though I can't speak for Danny.  :)

Loved these colorful blocks by Hay House. Actually, loved EVERYTHING by Hay House.

Loved this huge chandelier.

I've wanted this Eames "Hang it All" for years.

There was a party set up at the Design Museum Danmark. So simple & lovely.

I don't mind hot pink one bit.

I definitely have a thing for clocks. I think this one was by Arne Jacobsen.

And, I love, love posters. They are my wall art of choice. These were in the Design Museum Danmark.

Love a yellow cabinet specifically for yellow contents. So great.

A little graphic design inspiration from Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. That place was a highlight of our entire trip.

I wanted to buy this HUGE poster from Louisiana…but alas, no home to put it in!

These lights are just the best. I love how Jordan Ferney has used these in her boys' rooms.

Loved these color schemes.

And, well, I'm already dreaming of returning to Copenhagen someday. Hopefully next time I'll have a place to house a few Danish designed items.

Off we go to see more of Oslo today. We saw Norway's fjords over the last two days. Then spoke in Oslo last night. Our hearts are on overload. It's been amazing beyond words.

Love you all,

  1. i love scandinavian, especially Dutch, design too. Dustjacketattic, style-files and 79ideas are my fave interior design blogs. Simple, neutral, ergonomic with pops of color. Looks like you're having fun!

    1. Marlene, thanks for these design blog suggestions. I've been wanting to actually find some more Danish blogs - so thanks!

  2. Yay! So glad you went to Louisiana!! That was the highlight of my trip too.

  3. Any idea where you can buy those post boxes in the States?

    1. I don't know, unfortunately. But one thought - maybe you could buy a mailbox and paint it! I've heard auto shops will paint metal for you. I'm guessing you'd need to find a mom & pop shop, though. we have plenty of those in Brooklyn. As for the white lettering, you could attach the lettering typically sold for house numbers. ha. Look at me trying to think like a DIYer. :) But it would be a fun project to make something - someday I need to get back into projects like that.

    2. Thanks for the idea! I might just do that!
