Where Did You Get That? (+ A P.S. About Smelly Feet)

Hello! We're alive here - back in NYC and preparing our little brains out for Iceland, Norway, Denmark, and our huge move to Ecuador. Our renters move in this Saturday. Holy moly. This is getting real. There is just so, so much to say and share. But for now, a little post I wrote before the craziness...

The other day I was walking through midtown and yes, even midtown is making me hugely nostalgic these days! Most of my time in New York has been spent in midtown hedge funds. Every time I walk through there now, I see all the fancy lunch places that we used to order from on the company (ha! those were the days!) I remember dashing out for very rare 10 minute runs to the cosmetic counter at Bloomingdales. I remember Park Avenue all lit up with Christmas trees or bursting with tulips in the spring. I remember walking up and down Madison Ave. multiple times a day for work errands in fancy apartments and shops. I remember the dear door men and nannies and housekeepers that I used to see on a daily basis. They became some of my dearest friends. I remember skipping the car service for work errands so I could walk and get some fresh air, instead. I remember thinking that it was a shame I worked across the street from Barney's, but got off of work too late most days to even pay them a visit (unless I was picking up my boss's lunch at Fred's.) I remember all the amazing, amazing co-workers I've had and I feel so, so nostalgic. Working with people has created for me some bonds that seem to be for a lifetime. Even though I don't see them at all anymore, I still remember them and think of them so fondly.

And on that particular day in midtown as I reminisced, I spotted a great pair of shoes.

And so, I had to ask, "Where did you get those?"

And the answer is...they are UGG boots!

I was surprised and laughed because I actually still putz around the house in my very, very old shearling UGG boots from Australia. (My former in-laws were Australian and so we all knew about UGG boots before they were cool that one time in the early 2000s. Can you believe it's been that long?) But I had never seen this particular style and I just love them. GO UGG!

Unfortunately, this style is no longer available in stores. The woman called them "vintage." I did some research and saw that they are called the "Lynnea" boot by UGG. (I found several Lynnea boots on E-bay.) And here are a few photos to give you a closer look. I love that you can wear them with the sides up or down.

And in case you don't know this about Uggs...

They are designed to be worn WITHOUT socks! According to Ugg, "This actually makes them warmer providing they are a snug fit. They will not get smelly as sheepskin breathes. Also, if you wear socks that are not all natural, then your feet may sweat and start to smell. So if you must wear socks, use wool or cotton."

Love,
Mara

P.S. I might as well share this personal tidbit: Since going dairy free, my feet have not smelled ONCE! I mean, that's a few years now! In the past, hot NYC summers and wearing flats without socks used to bring out the worst (yuck. sorry.) I would buy mini socks and shoe inserts to prevent the problem. But now...I no longer need to do a thing. I was shocked that the problem just went away completely. How about you? Any tips for smelly feet??  haha. Might as well talk about the down and dirty as I know hot weather will be here before we know it. :)

P.P.S. The first photo is of the glorious sun, while snow was still on the ground. I took it bright and early one morning and just felt so alive with that sun on my face.

  1. The best tip I have for stinky feet? Spray those shoes (the ones that tend to get stinky) with rubbing alcohol at the end of the day when you have worn them! It kills any bacteria (the thing that causes the stinky smell) and leaves them fresh. :)

  2. I bought those shoes at my local Nordstrom Rack but returned them because I was in between sizes. They might still have them at your local NR.
