What We've Been Grateful for in 2013

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

-This last year, we've been so, so grateful for our family of two.  Many of our circumstances this year have been less than desirable, but our marriage has been the greatest blessing through every ounce of it.  We've grown in love so much, we're so happy to be partners together, we're thankful we both have a desire to try and love and live in the best way.

-We are so grateful for some of the dearest friends.  In Ecuador, the word "neighbor" doesn't just include those that live nearby, but those you share a meal with, those that bring food when someone is sick or has a baby, those that you share holidays with and memories with.  We have lots of those kinds of friends in New York and all over the country.  They are such a blessing to us.

-We're thankful for (4) parents, (6) sisters (2) brothers, (1) sister-in-law, (6) brother-in-laws, (8) nieces and (14) nephews in Mesa, Salt Lake City, Chicago, Central Point, and Portland.  We feel their support even though we live so far away.  And we're so happy that many of them want to visit us Ecuador! :)

-We're thankful we have health. While I don't have fertility, I still feel healthy and can walk, talk, breathe, move, etc.  It's such a huge, huge blessing. I will never ever forget being very sick with pneumonia shortly before starting this blog.  I felt so weak that I remember seeing the end of my life and realizing how fragile and short this life is.  And so, I started to write my first blog drafts while being so very sick.  I felt such an urgency to record my truths, to share anything that I could.

-We're thankful for the journey of having this blog. We try to offer love and support here to those who need it and in return, we have received so much love and support from you that we can hardly believe it. Thanks for your beautiful lives. Thanks for connecting with us here.

-We're thankful that life still has so much to offer even though it often looks nothing like we planned.  We learned that lesson when we found ourselves divorced and single again.  And we're learning it again now as we embark on this next chapter of our lives.

What are you grateful for in 2013?  It's kind of cool to reflect and think about it.

P.S. Aren't the new holiday lights all over Downtown Brooklyn so great?  They made all the design saavy Brooklynites proud.  :)

  1. Such a great list. I am thankful for my sweet husband and wonderful children. In 2013 we left NY and drove all our goods to southern Utah. I'm grateful for this chance to start over, to build a home that gives me space to improve my art. I'm grateful my oldest son was on a mission all of 2013 and even though I miss him more daily, his spiritual growth is a treasure.

I'm grateful for Danny and Mara. Your words turned my heart last year and helped me love my husband and others better.

I'm grateful for gospel truths, Christ's offering of hope and love.

So many blessings I can't list them all. Thanks for contributing to a better 2013 and best wishes to you for an amazing 2014! Seems like you're on your way!

  3. I was wondering if you guys wouldn't mind discussing your decision to not adopt (by the way, I have no judgment on either way anyone wants to go - it's a completely personal decision - I know there are likely multitudes of reasons why one would or would not want to go that route). I'm just curious about your decision about it as we too navigate next steps after years of infertility. Thank you guys and Happy New Year!

  4. I just wanted to say thanks for all your wonderful posts. You both are so inspiring and have really helped me make some important shifts in my thinking. Your new adventure in Equador looks and sounds amazing. I'm looking forward to your posts after you arrive (hint, hint).
You mentioned your friends and family in this post. Any chance you would make it to Chicago before you leave the country? If so, I would love to host some sort of "event" for you to meet with your friends, bloggers and readers. A bit of a long shot, I know, but it doesn't hurt to ask!
I just can't thank you enough for what you do--you help so many people find their happiness. It is priceless!
ALL the best to you in the coming year and beyond.
