Happy Labor Day Weekend!!

Some people go to the Hamptons every year and rent gorgeous homes in fancy beach towns. I’ve been there.  I’ve stayed in homes that cost tens of millions (thanks to my former boss & his family, for inviting me!)  I’ve driven his fancy cars, shopped at charming grocery stores that sell Perrier and prosciutto to millionaires, eaten gorgeous meals under arbors in the garden, and had fresh flowers in my room.  Oh my.  What an experience!  But for me, I’m actually content with a simpler life, too.  Want to know where we go for our summer outings with all the Brooklynites?  We go to this lakeside camp with cabins and a lodge, just about an hour north of Manhattan.  It’s kind of the best thing ever.  I’ve been going here since the year 2000.

Ha.  Not exactly the Hamptons.  But we all love it.  And….anybody want those Saarinen Tulip Chairs?  Oh man, I do!  I’ve been scheming for years how I could get a moving truck full of those, but they won’t sell.  🙁  I think the older woman who runs the place has caught on that they’re valuable.

And…pictures of the camp wouldn’t be complete without the Mini Cooper.  This was my previous car and we always took as many people as we could fit in it.   🙂

What you are guys doing for Labor Day Weekend??  Any fun plans?

I love hearing about your lives and have a new interest in learning about other places and lifestyles out there.  I mean, someday (gasp) there is always the chance we could leave New York.  Though I can hardly picture it as this is all I know.  Once in awhile I wonder where we would go if we ever left this place and I actually have no idea (please send suggestions!!!)

You never know . . . you might find yourself one day whisking your kids away for a six week adventure and the wake up one day six YEARS later looking at your love saying "What the? How are we HERE?" That's the best part of life together . . .creating dreams and adventures together, and ending up some place where you might never have thought you would. But I think you might know something about that already. Doing scary things makes life wonderful.

Duuuuuude. That is a mid century modern dream. Looks like so much fun, I want to go! And if you ever move, come on down to Atlanta! It's the least expensive place to raise a family in the US(according to this infographic: http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2013/08/14/212078144/that-2012-bundle-of-joy-will-cost-you-241-080-to-raise) and has a much lower cost of living than other cities. You could probably live in a mansion for what you're paying in NYC 🙂

Have you ever had 2 different sets of friends (that you know through somewhat diverse ways) that you think "How do these people not know each other?" This morning I read your blog, which celebrates life in such a rich way, and I read Krisha Deavers blog which right now is celebrating life in a big way too, and I couldn't squish the desire to share the link to her blog with you. Krisha and Cam married a bit older than the norm, are currently in their 40's, and lead an adventure filled life – he's in film, she's a high school English teacher. Cam was diagnosed with Mesothelioma almost 2 years ago. Krisha's blog is worth the read – it, too, is a blog about love – http://camdeaverupdates.blogspot.com
I hope you are both well! I love to claim knowing you!

It looks so charming! Sadly I had knee surgery and the little darlings just finished their first full week back at school. We had originally planned on camping, but I think we are just going to rest at home and watch movies.

I'm hanging out at home having my first relaxing long weekend of the summer. At some point I'll run 30km, hang out with my boyfriend and go for dinner with a girlfriend. Sounds like a great weekend to me 🙂

Spending the weekend at the beautiful beaches on the Gulf Coast. New Orleans is a fantastic place to live!

The Tetons in Idaho. Holy cow is it one of the most breath taking places. I hear the city of rocks, also in Idaho, is amazing, and is in my travel plans for next year!

Spending time decorating our new house and learning my way around our new town. Historic (downtown) Franklin, Tennessee is wonderful! I told my husband last night that even if we won the lottery, I'm not leaving our neighborhood. It's that great!

Those chairs are AMAZING! I would love to have a go-to vacation spot like that only an hour away from our house!

I love the Mini Cooper! I used to have a red one too and I absolutely loved it. I'm still kicking myself for trading it in, but I needed a more family sized car. 😉

And the furniture at that place is just plain fabulous!

Down here in Texas, where it will be in the 100s until Monday (when it will be a chilly 96 – ha!), it's pool time this weekend. My friends are having a pool party tomorrow and we might go to a local water park Sunday. Or we may go to the local Blues & BBQ Festival.

    Enjoy your weekend!

I love to talk about two of my favorite places! first for a vacation: pawley's island south carolina. it is so beautiful and restful, we just love it. the only hard part is coming back home. however, my second place to list is home… in case you are looking for a new place to call home, we love mt airy philadelphia!! many brooklyn-ites move here for a similar urban setting with less expensive cost of living. we love the neighborhood, the diversity and the great people that call this neck of the woods home. 🙂

Well, my weekend sounds boring compared to everyone else's! We just staying home, I have a few photo shoots and hubby works all weekend (all 3 days!). So we'll try to enjoy the little things, and just keep on what we're doing.

Camp! Camp is my favorite place in the world (any camp 🙂
That looks like the ideal vacation.

Houston is such a great place to live because the people are kind, there's all the art and culture of being the 4th largest city in the world, but everything is just EASY here. And affordable. Plus the beach is only 45 minutes away. Every year my friends and I rent a beach house and just camp out on the Gulf coast eating and reading and going to the beach. Not as good as camp, but almost.

we rejected the Hamptons idea too (partially financial and partially we moved too slow to get anything anyway!) and instead spent the weekend upstate in a hotel in White Plains. It had a pool, and that's all we wanted! Bonus: 20 minute drive out of the city.

Very nice post! I read it last night and sent the link to my husband and said I thought this was interesting and asked him to read it. He spent literally 5-10 seconds and skimmed the page & said, Okay, so what? Which caused a tiny argument between us and I stormed out of the room thinking he just didn't care! Well… 10 minutes later he comes in to talk to me. Explained that when he first saw this article, he became defensive & non-receptive. He thought this was my way of saying he was a bad parent/husband (which wasn't the case at all!) He is great! But even good marriages could use tips on maintaining their greatness! So just an extra tip to everyone… make sure your spouse understands what your trying to say when you bring up any kind of helpful marriage tips! I think we will have a lot of fun planning our dates & following some of the other tips from this post. get ordained online
