Giddy in Brooklyn

So, my dear husband has been out of town this last week.  He was at a yearly golf outing in St. George, UT with his guy friends.  He texted me this photo and it made me have a tiny tear just cause holy crap I get to call this guy my husband.  I still can't believe it sometimes.  I'm so grateful for him.  And also, this photo made me laugh because this year's tournament swag was actually this entire outfit.  haha. They usually pitch in and get T-shirts, but this year one of the guys just went all out for everybody and bought entire outfits, right down to a customized belt buckle.  Of course they all loved it because this tournament every year is like THE BEST DAY OF THEIR LIVES.  :)  It only involves trash talking amongst them for 364 days leading up to it.   :)

I'll be picking Danny up from the airport soon and I CANNOT WAIT to see him.  Lovers reunions are the best ever, aren't they??  Holy smokes.  I'm way too giddy.

One time when I picked him up after a red-eye we had to race to the fertility doctor's office in Manhattan to finish up an IUI.  What an adventure (I wrote a post about it here).  haha.  We have some good memories.

And...I'll tell you a little something here that Danny doesn't know yet... hee, hee...

I adopted 6 (!) new houseplants while he was gone.  Yes.  He'll have quite a surprise when he gets home. But well, I just couldn't resist.  I just fell in love with my window boxes this year (they have brought us so much joy I can't even tell you) and then I fell hard for my little Oxalis houseplant and a few others that I haven't even told you about yet.  And now, I think our plant family might be complete.  I'll have a post soon showing off our new additions.  :)

And, have you ever had a surprise waiting for someone in anticipation of their arrival?  It's kind of a fun thing to do.  Our good friends were also just apart for a bit and the husband rearranged the furniture to surprise his wife and kids when they returned.  He seemed really excited about it.  So fun.

Have a great Monday everyone!

Mara

  2. I tend to buy flowers for when he arrives... But I will try some bigger change next time!
But I also put some love notes on his suitcase that he will find out there.
When I am the one who leaves, I put love notes around the house too: in the drawers, inside his breakfast box, post-its on the shower, and a "sweet dreams" on his pillow... Luv ya in his shoes... It's fun!

  3. Enjoy reuniting with your husband! Maybe you'll be able to wander over to Prospect Park and catch the Perseid Meteor shower. It's a bit harder to see shooting stars with city lights, but I definitely think laying in the grass on a summer night is a sweet way to catch up.

  5. A few years ago, I moved to a city 2 hours away from my family/friends. I was quite homesick and traveled back very often. I used to get so disappointed when no one bothered to meet me at the bus terminal or train station.
Whenever people visit me, I make sure to be at their arrival point before they get there, sometimes 20-30 minutes before ETA. I love to hug them and kiss them and welcome them. I will do this for the rest of my life because I don't want anyone to ever feel 'arrival disappointment' like I did.
(Also, I no longer take the bus/train to visit my loved ones so that feeling has gone away.)

  6. I am not the best at cleaning and when one of us is gone the other tries to have the apartment clean for the reunion. My husband is a busy medical resident so we can go days with only a quick hello/good-bye and so on days when we eat a meal together feel like a reunion.

  11. I live in an apartment but in a beautifully miraculous way, there is a community garden just next door to my apartment complex! I managed to get the last spot. Gardening is so relaxing, calming, and rewarding. Last night we used fresh basil on our pasta. Really a treat. I am so glad you have found a way to have plants in your life even in the city.

    Have a marvelous, beautiful day!

  13. I picked up a lace aloe baby last weekend at the town square market here... I am in love and NEED more plants!
When my husband and I had been dating a couple of months, I traveled to China for 3 1/2 weeks. During our multiple email chats I longed for him and red apples- something I'd been in the middle of an obsession with, but were impossible to find in China. When he picked me up we had our airport reunion scene, and waiting in the car for me was a bag of apples. They were never so good. 3 days later he said "I love you" and the day after that we set a temple date =)
