I’ve mentioned my friend Koseli
before – she has a delightful on-line presence on her blog
and on her daily column on Design Mom
. Well, her talented husband, Keenan
, just launched a new app called Days
….and it’s seriously AWESOME. You may have seen it around already. I’m telling you, it just might become a favorite over Instagram. I’m not even kidding. I’ve already heard many people say they like it better. I’m actually not on Instagram, but even I’m tempted by this new app as it just captures moments in life in a very real
and natural way. My favorite thing about it: there is no filter and less emphasis on getting the perfect, most beautiful shot (as those things can take time away from fully experiencing the moment). Instead, the emphasis is just on recording your real life as it happens throughout the day in sort of a diary format, listing the time of day (& captions). And, ok – my other favorite thing: you can make quick GIFs! 🙂 I feel all saavy doing it…and it is so easy you wouldn’t believe it. The app also has such a happy vibe, which I love.
I’m still trying to get better at this…but here are some of my first “Days” (with scroll-over captions & GIFs), if you want to take a peek:
(A day in St. Thomas with Danny’s family)
(an afternoon/evening in Brooklyn)
Once you record a day, you have the option of emailing it to parents, family, friends, etc. Or sharing on Facebook or Twitter. Or just sharing it with your community on Days.
Now, I’m curious…what social media do you guys enjoy? Do you check Facebook often? Twitter?Pinterest? Oh yes, INSTAGRAM! 🙂
[I know, I know…my friends tell me all the time I should be on it…do you love it?] Or, do you not really join in on social media?
Believe it or not, social media (& reading blogs, let alone writing a blog!) is all new to me. I didn’t even have a Facebook account until after my divorce a few years back and really couldn’t even name any blogs (when we later started Harvey Faircloth, we got hit up many times by some big blogs and I had not even heard of them until then. oops!) But I guess I finally realized there was a whole world of conversations going on out there and joining in was a way to connect with people…even in meaningful ways. And that has happened! It has been so amazing. But, goodness, isn’t it crazy how much social media has the potential to take up our precious time, productivity, reading time, etc.? It motivates me to really try and keep it meaningful and to also maintain a balance of other interests. What has social media been like for you?
