I’ve mentioned my friend Koseli before – she has a delightful on-line presence on her blog and on her daily column on Design Mom.  Well, her talented husband, Keenan, just launched a new app called Days….and it’s seriously AWESOME.  You may have seen it around already.  I’m telling you, it just might become a favorite over Instagram.  I’m not even kidding.  I’ve already heard many people say they like it better.  I’m actually not on Instagram, but even I’m tempted by this new app as it just captures moments in life in a very real and natural way.  My favorite thing about it:  there is no filter and less emphasis on getting the perfect, most beautiful shot (as those things can take time away from fully experiencing the moment).  Instead, the emphasis is just on recording your real life as it happens throughout the day in sort of a diary format, listing the time of day (& captions).  And, ok – my other favorite thing:  you can make quick GIFs!  🙂  I feel all saavy doing it…and it is so easy you wouldn’t believe it.  The app also has such a happy vibe, which I love.
I’m still trying to get better at this…but here are some of my first “Days” (with scroll-over captions & GIFs), if you want to take a peek:
May 3 (on our way to St. Thomas…with Danny singing one of the coolest songs: “Damn, This Traffic Jam” by James Taylor.)
May 5 (A day in St. Thomas with Danny’s family)
May 8 (more St. Thomas)
May 16 (an afternoon/evening in Brooklyn)
May 20 (some moments in Brooklyn, including my new favorite night cream ever.)
Once you record a day, you have the option of emailing it to parents, family, friends, etc.  Or sharing on Facebook or Twitter.  Or just sharing it with your community on Days.
Now, I’m curious…what social media do you guys enjoy?  Do you check Facebook often?  Twitter?Pinterest?  Oh yes, INSTAGRAM!  🙂
[I know, I know…my friends tell me all the time I should be on it…do you love it?]  Or, do you not really join in on social media?
Believe it or not, social media (& reading blogs, let alone writing a blog!) is all new to me.  I didn’t even have a Facebook account until after my divorce a few years back and really couldn’t even name any blogs (when we later started Harvey Faircloth, we got hit up many times by some big blogs and I had not even heard of them until then.  oops!)  But I guess I finally realized there was a whole world of conversations going on out there and joining in was a way to connect with people…even in meaningful ways.  And that has happened!  It has been so amazing.  But, goodness, isn’t it crazy how much social media has the potential to take up our precious time, productivity, reading time, etc.?  It motivates me to really try and keep it meaningful and to also maintain a balance of other interests.  What has social media been like for you?

Do you know if they're going to make Days for androids? I can't find it in the app store, but then I am very technologically impaired 🙂
I haven't jumped on the Instagram bandwagon for the reasons you listed, it takes time away from the moment to make the picture "perfect." I like the idea of Days though. I'd love to give it a try.

You are such a sweetheart, Mara. So glad you're loving the app! I'm a sometimes Instagram user but I use Days every day. It's the first time social media has literally helped me reconnect in an intimate way with my friends and family. I rely on it to fill the gaps between my husband and I's days since he's gone so much. There just never seems to be enough time to retell all the cute new things our son did that day and the app is perfect for helping me with that. 🙂 I love it so much.

    Thanks again!

I love Spottlife, available as an Apple App. It combines Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Google so that you don't become overwhelmed by keeping up on each separately. I admit that I had it was not immediately intuitive, but now that I've figure it out, it's fantastic!

I have really come to enjoy Vine, and am very excited to try this new Days app! I like that you said it is much less about getting the perfect shot. One of the downfalls of social media is we think other people's lives are much more glamorous than they actually are, and then it becomes unrealistic. Thanks for telling us about this!

I don't have Facebook, but I do LOVE instagram. I love that you can create/have GIF's with this new app though, that's pretty awesome. I am curious, cause I am not computer savvy, techy at all – if I had an idea for something, who can I contact who does have the skills…? Thanks.

This is super cool! I don't have a smart phone, but maybe when I get one I'll use this app. I love the vibe.

This sounds like so much fun! I'm downloading it now. I am totally addicted to instagram! I love taking pictures in general, and I really like this easy way of sharing it with family & friends. Especially because I live so far away from home, it's nice to be able to show them a slice of my daily life! And for me, I like remembering the little things – because those are what make life most beautiful.

Thanks so much for sharing this Mara! I downloaded it yesterday and I think I'm in love. I even added it to my blog post today. Hope you have a lovely Wednesday!
