Angel Feet & The Perfect Date in the West Village

Today's post is near and dear.  We got to go to Angel Feet for a date!! You guys, it's such a little NYC gem. This place will sweep you away in minutes. I'm so happy to share it with you...

Angel Feet is known as the best reflexology place in the city. I have known about it for probably 10 years and have always wanted to go. I looove reflexology (is there anything better than having someone with skills go to town on your feet?) Read ahead for our full date experience in the West Village. And, something fun today:  One reader will receive a gift for two! See the end of this post!!!  :)

Angel Feet is nestled in what is quite possibly one of the cutest neighborhoods in existence - the West Village. (It also reminds me so much of Brooklyn.  I think that's why I love it. :)

Now, Danny is not so experienced with all my natural/holistic ways...but since we've been together, he's been loving so much of what I've introduced him to.  (hee, hee.)  I've got him drinking my green smoothies with me every day, drinking almond milk, eating all kinds of greens from the farmer's market. He even laughed the other day when he realized we have a sugar and flour bin in our cupboard that we never use. (We use almond flour and honey/agave/stevia instead.)  Anyway, it's cute to see him enjoy some of my holistic ways. And let me tell you, this man looooooved the reflexology :) :) :)

From their website:  "Reflexology is a natural and gentle form of relaxation which promotes harmonization of the body, mind and spirit. By gently stimulating reflex points located in your feet and hands (which correspond to your whole body), tension and stress can be released giving you a feeling of peace and well-being."

Going in, I was ecstatic.  Danny still didn't know what he was getting himself into.  :)

We were attended to by two of the sweetest relexologists I think there ever could be.  They tucked us into these suuuper comfortable chairs and wrapped us up to stay awhile, gave us something to drink, tucked pillows all around us, started our feet soaking, and then wrapped and propped up our feet.  Um....we were kind of dying over how relaxing it already was and they hadn't really even started.  The hustle and bustle of NYC could not have been further away.

Yes, this guy was loving life.

Our dear reflexologists worked on us simultaneously.  We had a 1 hour session so they had time to work on both our hands and our feet.  It was heavenly!!!

And that feeling of "peace and well-being" that reflexology is supposed to help create?  Yes, yes, yes! We felt it.  :)  :)  Oh my.

I've always loved that official Reflexology Foot Chart. It was actually hanging up on our wall near my mom's desk my entire childhood.  She would often do reflexology on us if we had any aches or pains.  :)  (Also, I looove this amazing, modern chart, designed by Erin Jang.  It shows some of the more basic points that you could massage at home. I think I need to carry on tradition and have one of these hanging on my wall. :)

After our sessions, we were so relaxed we didn't want to move...

It felt strange to put shoes on again.

Afterward, we headed to Taim, a tiny Israeli place and one of our favorite restaurants in the city.  They are famous for their falafel. I love the "green falafel" with parsley, mint, and cilantro  (GOOP says it's "the best falafel in the world!")  I also love getting their coconut milk smoothies (the date, lime, banana is amazing.)

There is always a line at Taim, so snag a seat on the bench out front or on one of their stools as soon as you can!

Our day ended with watching the basketball players at West Fourth Street.  This scene is just classic New York.

Such a perfect day.

And now, Angel Feet would love to share this experience with one of you!

They have offered a Gift Certificate for (2) 1-hour sessions so you can take your partner or a friend on a date!  Just leave a comment below. We'll choose one of you after 12 noon on Friday, 6/14/13.  This would also be the perfect thing for anyone visiting the city.  (NY has a tendency to tire out visitors' feet.  :)  And if you don't think you'll be in NYC anytime soon, you could also gift it to a friend in the city.

(FYI, the one hour session gives you the opportunity to have both hand and feet work done, if you wish.  I highly recommend it!!!  You will be in heaven!!!!)

Also, Angel Feet would like to offer 15% off to ALL our readers this Summer (through August 31st, 2013).  Just mention A BLOG ABOUT LOVE when you book your reservation.  :)

UPDATE:  The lipstick!  It's one of my favorites on earth.  I gave up Nars, you guys.  They have LEAD in some of their lipsticks.  That is so not cool.  I've been going all natural and this brand is the cream of the crop.  A little goes a long way...I feel it will last forever.

Brand: Ilia.  Color: Wild Child.

OK, and the sunglasses: Target.  :)

  8. That is such a fun giveaway. My husband and I have lived in in NYC for over two years, but we haven't gotten to experience as much of that side of the city as I would like. That sounds like the perfect date night!

  10. Foot massages are a necessity for New Yorkers, right? I moved here a year ago and remember grabbing a local two weeks in and asking "WILL MY FEET EVER STOP HURTING?!"

  21. Well Mara, this just might be the perfect way to spend my birthday when I visit! (July 17th!). I'll be doing quite a lot of sight seeing with my beautiful friend Linnea from Sweden, and boy what a nice way to unwind this would be. I've never tried reflexology, but it sounds like a wonderful experience.

    All my love,

  23. Reflexology was one of the main treats my husband did for me a while ago. Now between the two kids and the hectic life I feel bad to ask for one when the day is finally over. Would love to try Angel's feet. Mafe from Brooklyn

  34. Glad to hear you enjoyed it; I was waiting to hear your review after you mentioned it awhile back. My best friend and her fiance, would greatly benefit from this, and it would make a great early wedding gift (They want to wait to marry until it's legal in NJ, where they live, but are thinking of doing a ceremony in NYC)! She has, over the past few years, had to have multiple surgies on her back for nerve damage to her foot - so what a treat this would be. Thanks for the great review and the discount!

  42. Oh man; reflexology would be just the icing on the cake for us. We both work high-stress schedules and love the holistic approach to healing and maintaining the body and soul-even with my husband going into medical school!
Our seventh anniversary is coming up and New York would be the dreamiest place to celebrate!
    And who doesn't love falafel?!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Ah. Angel Feet!! I worked there 10 years ago and have not had the experience of being a client..
yet. Perhaps the time has come, vote for me and Eric people, the man who was silly enough to say he didn't "believe" in massage 6 years ago when we first met. There were tears, and they weren't all mine ;)
Since then I have used reflexology to help open his sinuses when he gets a cold. The look on his face was priceless.
Oh the joy of going to Angel Feet, I will get there before the end of summer regardless!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I would make a special trip to NYC for Angel Feet and to see the Koefed's! Miss and love you dearly Mara!

  45. I can't think of anything better than to give oneself (and a loved one!) the gift of relaxation among the hustle and bustle of NYC. Just reading this post melted away a bit of my stress, so I can only imagine how amazing the actual reflexology session will leave me feeling!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Oh that sounds heavenly! I would love, love a chance to try out Reflex here in the city!

Also, you look so happy and beautiful in the pics from your last post. I am sending you all the positive energy I can muster!

  49. heck yes! My sweet husband rubs my feet on the daily, though definitely not following any reflexology rules - I can only imagine how good the professional, real thing feels! Could this be transferable? I don't live in the city, nor will I be visiting soon, but 2 of our best friends live in Astoria and just celebrated an anniversary. I would love to pass it on to them if I could!

Also, I second the "can we talk about your lipstick" comment. so happy and summery.

  50. That sounds amazing. One of my favorite things to do for my boyfriend is give him a hand massage because I just know how much he loves them. I am always telling him he'd love getting his feet worked on (but not by me ha!). This would be perfect for us. Thanks for sharing!

  51. Long time reader, first time commenter :) My husband and I will be making our first-ever trip to your neck of the woods in October (I've been to New Jersey, but not NY--go figure). I'm officially adding Angel Feet to our itinerary; reflexology is the coolest! And I suspect we'll hit up Taim for some gluten-free goodness, too--thanks for the frequent GF and dairy-free recommendations on your blog!

  59. AAAHHHHH! Taim is the best falafel in the world! Christy introduced us to it right before we moved to Seattle. I think we went once a week until we moved, that is how much we loved it. I even had a dream last night about going, what are the odds. We always took our falafel sandwiches and walked to the Hudson waterfront to sit and eat and people watch. Oh man, I think a trip back is in order soon.

  67. this is relevant because it means that while ultrasound can produce higher resolution images, the effective depth at which they can probe is limited by the higher dissipation levels. after all, if the wave dissipates too quickly, then there is no reflected signal to detect, and you end up imaging nothing.
