Subway Lovers & A Date Night Tip

(image)
One amazing thing about a date night...

On dates, you generally hold hands and sit close to each other, right?  And yet - you can't do anything more, because you're in PUBLIC.

Let that detail work in your favor!!  :)

Enjoy the act of desiring each other, caress each other's arms during a movie, sit next to each other on one side of the table, kiss a bunch while on the subway platform, sit ridiculously close on the train, hold hands under the table.  These are all things you would have done if you were dating.  But even if you've been married for awhile, doing these things all night might make you feel...um...we'll leave it at giddy.   :)

And may these gorgeous photos from the subway inspire you...

Ahhhh....I love these.  So beautiful.

P.S.  Something funny...Danny and I were at an airport once on a layover somewhere and we were being affectionate while waiting for our turn to board the gate.  Someone behind us said, "Enough with the PDA" and we turned to look and it was the CEO of Danny's company!!!  haha.  She is this amazing and delightful woman and she was just beaming, giddy, laughing, and so happy about catching us in the act.  How do you all feel about being affectionate in public?  Does it make you uncomfortable?  Or do you think it's sweet?

{And, something fun we could do here....if you see two lovers, snap a photo and send it to me.  I'll post them on the blog.  Please put the word 'Lovers' in the subject line.  It could be so sweet to see your pics!}

Here are two lovers I caught with my i-phone:

Seeing them made me so happy.

Have a great day everyone!!

  1. Love this! I've actually been collecting iPhone photos for a few months for what I like to call "Love on the Metro." I just kept seeing really sweet moments while I was riding the metro or waiting on the platform, and I kind of just started taking photos. I haven't posted any of them online yet, but when I do, I'll definitely send the link! :)

  2. I think you really should be careful being too affectionate if children are around. I was always told to cover my eyes wen "those young kids are making out in public!!" It makes me uncomfortable if there are children around bc kids don't know who is married and who isn't. Also it's good to be sensitive to the downcast around you. What if someone is really struggling in life and hasn't tapped into their happiness yet.... Parading affection in front of them might cause them more grief. Just a thought.

  3. @.Anonymous--why not find a way to be happy for those in love, and look for happiness for yourself somewhere else? Because once you're one of those affectionate couples, you will hope the world is wishing you the best, not asking you to douse your love.

  4. I LOVE PDA! Haha!! My husband is not really one to show too much affection in public, but I love when he does. I think it's so beautiful to see people in love.

  5. When I see an elderly couple arm in arm I always tell my husband that is going to be us in fifty years. I love to see enduring love like that.

  6. I love moderate PDA in public; giving, receiving and observing. I grew up with parents who were very affectionate and it was a comfort to know that they loved each other and us so much. When I see people in public who are engaging in a little PDA I am glad that any little ones around can see joy and happiness in a world that offers so much sorrow.

  7. I love every bit of this. Last summer I shared a PDA moment with a new boyfriend on Huntington Beach, only to realize afterward that a random group of my close friends from Arizona had been 20ft away from us the entire time. And now I'm THAT girl. haha. Not ashamed. (He was a little embarrassed though.)

  8. I've always said I don't like to see PDA, but unfortunately, I find myself now wanting to give it! I adore it from any older couple who has maintained that love over the years. I think it's great in small, subtle doses. It really is nice to see real love and care throughout the world.

  9. I love affection -- giving, receiving, seeing love on display. I'm totally in favor of low-level PDA - hugging, holding hands, a hand on a knee or neck, a quick peck of a kiss, etc. But actual making out or serious groping on a subway platform or elsewhere in public? I think that's a bit much - tacky and too likely to make others uncomfortable.

  10. I love PDA - like others have said NOT making-out- but being super affectionate with little kisses and touches and giggles and giddiness is awesome. It's so great to see two people who are letting their love show in public.
My husband and I let our happiness and joy with each other show and I can't tell you how many people have come up to us in public to tell us how great it is to see a couple so in love. And to the commenter concerned about being affectionate in front of children, isn't showing children a healthy marriage the best example you could set for them?

  11. I wrote a guest post all about handholdingfor another blog celebrating the proclamation of the family. When you have little kids it seems your hands are always full of holding theirs, bags, pushing strollers etc even when your husband is a few feet away both sets of hands are full. So I wrote about the few date nights where holding hands is the most wonderful thing. Love hand holding. doesnt happen enough!!
