I mentioned before that my husband is the chef around here. I can’t even tell you how spoiled I am with food. This man knows how to cook better than anyone I’ve known.
And that leads us to what we are pretty sure is the best Mexican cookbook in the world, Truly Mexican
by Roberto Santibanez
. Danny and I are Mexican food snobs, I’ll admit. Growing up out west we both had access to amazing Mexican food. Well, it turns out that there is a really, really good Mexican restaurant called Fonda
within minutes of our front door. We love going there for their $5 Happy Hour menu. Last year while I was at Alt, Danny treated himself to dinner there and…to his surprise, he saw that the chef had a cookbook!!! He was dying. He bought one and ever since he has been cooking up recipes that we just can’t get enough of…we literally eat from this cookbook at least twice a week. (Major bonus for me: it’s nearly all gluten and dairy free!!) Here are few of Danny’s pics…
Avocado and Pineapple Salad with Shrimp & a Three Chile Adobo Sauce.
Danny has quite a collection of Mexican spices and chiles! We drive out to Sunset Park for these, in the Latino quarter.
Onion and avocado leaves serve as the base for the. best. black. beans. I’ve ever had in my life. When we have some on hand I eat them for breakfast, lunch & dinner and still want more.
Pork Tacos (I am starving for these!)
also has a handsome collection of salsas. Tomatillos are a staple around here. We constantly have fresh salsa on hand (and our favorite chips
Sorry for holding out so long on you guys. We’ve been wanting to share this cookbook with you forever, and I’m glad it finally happened. It’s that good.
Have a great day everyone! (I’ll be running errands while there is a Clinique photo shoot going on in my apartment
. Crazy, I know. Directors, Creative Directors, Assistants, production, a model, stylists, hair/make-up, and catering set up in my spare bedroom. It will be nuts over here! 🙂
P.S. You may have read on Twitter that I love listening to Jay Z from time to time as I drive around Brooklyn (it just seems like the right thing to do sometimes :). Well, this video of Jay-Z riding the subway
on the way to the new Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn has made me even more of a fan. While on the train he converses with an older woman and it is adorable. If you haven’t seen it yet, you won’t regret it. It will really, really make you smile. 🙂
