Well, it also happens to be one of the best things I've ever done for my face
Ages ago, I heard about using coconut oil on your face. I tried it. Wasn't too impressed and it may have even led to extra blemishes (of course back then, I was eating dairy so no product on earth was ever going to make a difference.) Anyway, for quite some time I really wasn't itching to use coconut oil again. But recently I figured out a routine that works wonders. I'm obsessed with this and it has made my skin so visibly different. Sometimes I can't believe that this is my skin. Deeper wrinkles that I had on my forehead have literally reduced...a ton. Also, due to being dairy free, huge pores I used to have are barely noticeable to me. Certainly I do not have airbrushed perfect skin. But it has been blemish free (!!) for the first time in my life and it looks much younger and healthier to me than it did even five years ago. Do I dare say it even looks dewy a lot of the time and I can flat out skip foundation if I want.
Here's my nightime and daytime coconut oil routine (yes, insert jokes here ;) ...
This routine is soap free, 100% natural, inexpensive, and NOTICEABLY anti-aging.

1. Protect Your Face With Coconut Oil During Your Shower. Before I get in the shower, I cover my skin in a very generous amount of coconut oil and massage it into my face - including my eye area. I consider it a protectant layer for the shower so that the hot water doesn't dry out my skin. Somehow the steam, hydration and the coconut oil makes for a very nice combination. I rub the oil in quite well. (I use Spectrum brand unrefined, organic coconut oil. Unrefined means it's richer in nutrients.)
2. Rinse. At the end of the shower, the last thing I do is rinse my face with the warm/hot water. What remains will be the perfect amount of oil and will not be too greasy for your day, including if you're wearing make-up. (I also fit in using my Clarisonic a few times a week, with a very mild all natural soap.)
3. Pat dry. Then I apply my apple cider vinegar and my regular moisturizer for the day.

NIGHT TIME ROUTINE
1. "Wash" Face With Coconut Oil. No Soap. The minute I even think that it might be time for me to prepare for bed (usually at a wee hour), I will add a generous amount of coconut oil to my face and rub it in really well, make-up and all. I massage the oil in for about 30 seconds or so - as if I am "washing" my face to loosen up any make-up, etc. I hold off on removing mascara just yet.
2. Dilly Dally. While the coconut oil is soaking in, I take my vitamins, drink some water, brush my teeth, floss, take out my contacts, etc. etc. You know, there's always plenty to do. The whole time, that generous layer of coconut oil is just softening my skin, like an old fashioned cold cream (just not laden with chemicals.)
3. Remove Mascara. When I'm done with everything else, I then use the coconut oil to remove my mascara. I use a dry cloth to gently wipe the mascara off my eyes. It works really, really well.
4. Rinse. The very last thing I do is then rinse off the coconut oil with very warm water. The idea is that you take off any oily excess and make-up residue. What remains will be exactly the right amount. I then pat dry and still follow up with my regular moisturizer.
**COCONUT OIL JARS FOR STORAGE** Remember these guys? I have a separate little jar in my medicine cabinet for my face only. These jars are working so well.
Do you have an anti-aging trick that works wonders? Would love to hear!!
Disclaimer: If you are not happy with your skin, based on my lifetime experience with this, you very, very likely have a food sensitivity. This coconut oil trick will likely not do anything for you until you get the allergy part worked out. Dairy and sugar are known to be the worst culprits when it comes to skin acne and aging. I have never in my life had a dermatologist tell me this. Not a single face product or medicine or wonder product worked on my skin for 30+ years until I went dairy free (and I've cut down on refined sugar). I can't not share this with people as the majority of doctors in this country will not recommend this. I am still shocked at what has happened to my skin. Before going dairy free, I felt like I was aging like c-r-a-z-y. And now it's almost as if that has reversed. If you have acne or skin problems, I cannot recommend enough to go dairy free for 8 weeks and see if it makes a difference. It has to be 100%, though. Even a small amount of dairy will change my skin.

Coconut oil is really wonderful if used as anti-aging product. Not only anti-aging it has many other uses like :-
ReplyDelete1. Make up remover
2. Massage oil
3. Pre-shave and aftershave
4. Deep hair conditioner and split end treatment
5. Burn relief and scar reduction
6. Toothpaste (baking powder mixed with coconut oil) etc.
LOVE this. Thank you so much for the other tips!
DeleteI think you would really love the LifeVantage True-Science Anti-Aging Cream. Does an absolute wonder to your skin and repairing the skin cells!!
Deletei find he best way to get an all natural cream that is easily absorbed by the skin is to make one,,, it's so easy really.... basically it's mixing oil and beezwax while warm, then once cooled but not quite setting u add oil... different oils have different benefits but rice bran holds lots of moisture and sunflower is full of vitamin e , i like to add a few like evening primrose which is also a preservative to the other oils n helps it all last longer,,, u then add mineral water or ionised water, slowly using a blender (a hand held one works fine)it will then begin to look like moisturiser... keep adding water and blend until it stops taking water , as in th water starts to lay on top ... can then add essential oils ,, i use frankinsence cos it anti aging n cell regenerator, i also like rose n rosemary but different oils suit different folks needs ... store in the fridge because if it gets warm it seperates ,,, use all over ,,, once you've made it once you'll never buy again ,, i make a big batch and store it in a big jar then fill up a small jar as i need it ... i only make it every few months xxx
DeleteI was with my bf for 3 years, we broke up a month ago and I could not do anything but think of him, I tried to get on with my life but we did everything as a couple.. He was amazing to me, we laughed together, we watched the same program on try and we liked pretty much the same things.. We didn’t split up because we didn’t love each other, we split up because my parents lived in a different country and i could not find a job where he lived to stay with him.. Worse thing of it all is that we are both madly in love with each other but can’t be together but at last i did tried a spell caster dr.marnish@yahoo.com and he did a wonderful thing for me which my mouth can not speak and i am the happiest girl on earth now, i and my bf will be getting married next week, this is absolute miraculous that i and my lover are back again

That's awesome! Where do you get coconut oil?
ReplyDeleteYou can get it at most grocery stores...sometimes in the organic section. Definitely a health food store would have it. You can also get it on Amazon. Get unrefined coconut oil as it has greater health properties and nutrients.
DeleteHey I found some organic coconut oil at the store today but it comes hard? What is the right way to soften it to use?
DeleteOnce you get some on your fingers, the warmth of your hands melts it and makes it super easy to apply to your skin!!
Delete***Im using prosource extra virgin coconut oil. Its in liquid form inside a bottle... in a cold low temperature it doesnt turn into a super solid form.but i would notice small white forms floating around inside the bottle. Its SUPER effective. it natural and our coconut oil as it is cold pressed and unrefined.I use it in KILLING ACNES cos acnes usually appear on my face during pre menstral days. it repairs skin too! my skin got burned one time when I used an anti acne cleanser (it super dried my skin around my mouth and the sides of my nose, the areas reddened, then darkened when it started healing, so i had this scar around my face!) Using EVCO as a moisturizer really removed the dark areas! so it really removes dead skin w/o you rubbing it.! another thing, it removed a new wart on my face! amazing right? if you have any questions, my email is gigiloren7@gmail.com... ! ****gigi
DeleteWhen I eventually found testimonies about this spell caster dr.marnish, how he helped many people to get their lover back, i contacted him through his email address dr.marnish@yahoo.com because I was absolutely desperate to get my husband back. Life without my husband was a real mess for me and my children. i wanted a dramatic change and I thought magic could be the solution. After discussing the resolution with dr.marnish, he gave me hope that he will restore my marriage. I felt confident that he will actually make my husband to return home and he did! It’s fantastic what dr marnish have done for me. his help is priceless! I don't know what I would have done without dr.marnish, dr marnish does his job so well he is organized and highly functional, i believe he is the best spell caster i can count on when it comes to love spell, I was floored that his spells worked Thanks! cherry Smith, Nottingham, UK
DeleteCoconut oil is amazing! I've found that my skin tends to change with the seasons, i.e. very dry in the winter and rather oily in the summer. For my winter routine I've started using Avalon Organics Facial Cleansing Milk (it's so soft on my face and has a great herbal scent), followed by apple cider vinegar for toner, then either Argan oil (which has been so amazing on my face and hair too) or coconut oil. A lot of my problems have cleared up after starting this routine (it's been about a month or so) and my skin feels so soft! Switching to more natural products in general on my skin has been a huge help.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I stopped scrubbing my face completely too. I just massage the cleanser in to my face.
DeleteCeleste - LOVE the ideas. If you want a very inexpensive milk cleanser, you can also try goat milk powder (put about a 1/4 teaspoon in your hand and add some drops of water to make a soft paste. It is SO nourishing, moisturizing and very inexpensive.) Thanks for your other tips!
DeleteI love Coconut oil! I, too have been using it for about a year- I do my routine a tiny bit different, but the same idea- I use it as a makeup remover, but I have found that I like to use a warm, wet washcloth to wipe everything off- then I reapply a small amount for a moisturizer- but I am going to try what you said about rubbing it on the face only, not your eye makeup while you do the rest of the routine. I also hadn't thought to use it as a mask of sorts while I showered. SOmetimes, if I've been feeling like my face is needing more exfoliation, I use a washcloth in the shower with a tiny amount of Dr. Bronner's Magic soap, which is what I use for my body soap. It seems to be working wonders for me as well-- I have had better skin than I've had in years! I do very limited Dairy, but I know that I felt better a couple years ago when I was 100% dairy free...I've just gotten lazy with it! Maybe I'll take the plunge again in the New Year!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of the wash cloth!
DeleteThis is so good. May. I ask what you use for moisturizer? And are you still doing your apple vinegar?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info!
Anna
Yes! Still on the apple cider vinegar (I forgot to add that earlier but added it into the post.) And - right now I'm using Khiel's Abyssine or Khiel's Ultra Facial Moisturizer. I love it, but it's not 100% natural and has SOME harmful chemicals in it so right now I have a new natural product on it's way to me and I'll be testing it out. I've been trying to go all natural with everything...
DeleteI too have been loving coconut oil as a moisturizer. I had not tried putting it on before my shower until this morning and I loved it!!! My routine was to put it on right after getting out of the shower, letting it soak in while i dried off and dressed and then put my moisturizer on top. (I have very dry skin in the winter) This morning, my face was not the usual swollen red balloon when I got out of the shower, so I will keep putting it on before the shower. I just bought my first jar of Dr. Bronner's Coconut Oil and I am liking it much more than the Spectrum container I had before. It smells much better and seems easier to work with.
ReplyDeleteThank you Thank you Thank you!! Not just for the posts about amazing coconut oil, but for your blog. I love your positive energy, and try to read your blog first thing each morning. It is a great way to start the day for me. Happy Holidays!!
ahhh - so glad this worked for you! yay!
DeleteAt age 65, my skin is still oily, but during the winter it can become a bit flakey. If I humidify (hot steam) my bedroom, not only do I reduce respiratory discomfort and have fewer colds, but my skin is moisturized all night long. As the oldest of 3 sisters (3 years apart), 2 who live in the desert parts of the country, I look the youngest because of our humid summers and my humidified winters.
ReplyDeleteOh my - a humidifier. BRILLIANT. I think that would be a worthwhile investment. Thank you!
DeleteDo you have dry skin naturally? My skin tends toward the oily end of the spectrum, so I'm wondering if this would work for me, too? Thoughts?
ReplyDeleteBefore going dairy free, I had dry skin and oily skin at different times of the day. It was a mess. Flaky, patchy skin yet oily and shiny later in the day and at all times I had blemishes. Since going dairy free, I would say my skin is neither dry nor oily. It's just a great balance of normal skin. Having said that, oil is still supposed to be ok and even recommended for oily skin. I know there's a lot about this on-line, too.
DeleteThank you! Based on the last few posts, you've convinced me that coconut oil is the way to go - for so many things! :)
DeleteI have had the WORST skin for the last year and a half, and nothing has worked (not even a short stint of being dairy-free), and I was nervous to try something that all through my teenage years was a huge no-no (putting oil on acne? what?), but I finally thought, what the heck - I've tried everything else! I took the plunge last weekend and ALREADY my skin is looking so much better. I've had no new breakouts, and the old ones are going away. I think it will take (much) more time to see big improvements, but I'm feeling really good about this. THANK YOU!! :)
DeleteYou can also whip it for a body butter... http://www.livingthenourishedlife.com/2012/02/homemade-whipped-coconut-oil-body.html
ReplyDeleteI cannot BELIEVE you are bring up coconut oil again. Just stirring the pot... :)
ReplyDeleteSo we tried you last coconut oil tip and love it! (if you could read love in a high pitched sing-songy voice then I think you'll get my full meaning). Really, it's a very nice addition to our bedroom physical activities. wink, wink.
And I'm eager to try it on my face as well. Nectar of the gods...
I do the same thing, coconut oil is The Best. I've been using it for years for everything and don't know how I ever did without it. It's fabulous for cooking and baking as it remains stable with heat (and it's delicious!). Great blog, love your positive energy!

A question about your evening routine: When you wash your face with the oil, do you get it all over your eyes and then open your eyes to do other tasks while it soaks in? I'm wondering if it dissolves your mascara during that time or if you leave your eyes free of the oil until you wipe it off later. Would your eyes sting if you cover them in oil and then open them to do other tasks?
ReplyDeleteAlso, does it feel comfortable and effective to use other products after using the oil? I wonder if it's all redundant... once I coated my face in oil, I wonder if the residue would block other expensive products from entering my skin or if the toner would strip the oil that I'd just put on.
Thank you!!!
At night, I avoid my eye area until I'm done with my other tasks, so I don't have to get oil in my eyes, etc.
DeleteAnd, good question about the residue blocking the other products. It does feel comfortable using the toner and moisturizer and it is working fine for me, but it would be worth experimenting.
Sigh.
ReplyDeleteGive up cheese and chocolate for nice skin?
I don't know if I could!
Hi Jane! The nice skin part is just a bonus of less inflammation inside your body, which is the bigger issue. Inflammation is also directly related to all kinds of autoimmune disorders as well as infertility (in my case, that is why I have not been able to get pregnant.) SO - when I think about all the more important things related to my health, it's definitely more motivating to not eat cheese and chocolate. Otherwise, you're right - it would be really hard...
DeleteThat does put it into perspective!
DeleteCoconut oil is such a genius multitasker! I also use it instead of shaving cream for the softest legs EVER. It's really unbelievable. I remember being scared about the idea of using oils on my skin, but once I tried it, I've truly never looked back. For face, right now I'm loving Sprout/S.W. Basics' Makeup Remover (http://store.swbasicsofbk.com/products/makeup-remover) - oils in it are sweet almond, olive, and jojoba. I slather it all over my face, rubbing gently, then use a clean towel & hot water to do a mini-steam, thus getting rid of every trace of makeup. After this, my face is oh-so-soft. I think it's fascinating that different oils have different uses for skin - just read this article on Well + Good about facial oils that fight acne (http://www.wellandgoodnyc.com/2012/12/21/facial-oils-that-fight-acne/#facial-oils-that-fight-acne-1 ) and want to do some more experimenting!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to add that if anyone is still getting acne after ruling out a food intolerance, it may be a good idea to get checked for PCOS. I had the worst acne in my 20's and saw several doctors and a dermatologist about it. None of them mentioned that it could be related to PCOS, but when I was having trouble getting pregnant, my OBGYN diagnosed it. After I got my hormones straightened out, my skin cleared up. However, my complexion could use a little TLC right now, so thanks for all the good skincare tips, Mara!
ReplyDeleteScarlett - - THANKS for pointing this out!!
DeleteYour other coconut oil tip worked wonders, gonna try this one too!
ReplyDeleteHi, I stumbled upon your blog. The title sounds really good, but then, it is followed by your own called 'obsession' about anti-aging. Why is this good?
ReplyDeleteAny obsession means something is out of balance. Love is not obession. Love is balance. Love is acceptance. Why are we so obsessed with youth or anti-aging. What is so bad about living a full life and have a few signs here and there showing that we did? Just because the media suggests that we're not an attractive memeber of society when we're over 30 (at this point)? The media lives from ads. Ads live from corproations. Corporations live from low self-esteem and breeding consumer self doubt. So, why on earth should anyone follow anything the media or advertising suggests? Aren't we worth more? Sorry, would have liked to publish my replay with an ID, but can't seem to find name ID.
Ah, well, we are all human. I haven't met a perfect one yet and the beauty of life is that when and if we do get out of balance a bit, we can get refocused and rebalanced. And I do believe that taking care of our physical body is just as important as the mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of our lives.
DeleteHave you ever tried coconut oil for deodorant? I have used both coconut oil and apple cider vinegar. Coconut oil works really well. It is my understanding that body odor is caused by the bacteria and since coconut oil is anti-bacterial, it works beautifully. I love to simplify and minimize my the number of beauty care products cluttering up my bathroom.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried this - but I read about it recently and would love to give it a try. I'm using Weleda deoderant, but it isn't exactly cheap, so coconut oil could be a great option. My only concern is - does the oil get on your clothes?
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI have yet to stain any clothing. I put the oil on first thing after getting out of the shower and then finish my routine before I get dressed. You could wipe off any excess oil that hasn't soaked in yet with a dry towel before getting dressed. And, yes, the price is unbeatable!
DeleteAlso, as insurance, when I have an oil stain, I put dish soap on the stain and then rinse with really hot water. This works really well.
I was dairy-free for a year, hoping to cure up acne, but it didn't (although my menstrual cycles improved much). What helped me the most was drinking lots and lots of water. I was never thirsty before. I mean, I probably drank 1-2 cups a day. So I forced myself to drink 14 cups a day, and all my acne went completely away. After much reading, and experimenting, I think all of these things are related, and here is the connection: Dairy is hard to digest, and undigested food is acidic to your body. If your digestive system is compromised, then eating foods that are hard to digest and/or acidic (like sugar, which is also cleansing, since it is a carbohydrate) and even are cleansing (like fruit, although it is also alkalizing, so there is some neutralizing of those acids that are cleansed into your bloodstream), your acne (and all other symptoms) will be worse. Your skin is one of your detox organs, and when it is overburdened, it flares up. So urination (hence drinking more water) flushes out acids and not eating dairy reduces new acids coming into your body. And acids mess with everything in your body, including thyroid and hormones, so all that can be messed up as well. Eating an alkaline diet, however, is not really the best answer. No one in the history of the world has eaten as such. But it is important to take a good heavy dose of probiotics so your bowel is healthy enough to poop out your own acids, then it doesn't matter so much what you eat. That's my 2 cents at trying to get at the root of the problems.
ReplyDeletei just tried this for the first time on my face tonight, my skin feels amazing (and smells good too!) can't wait to see if i notice any improvements...thanks for the tip! :)
ReplyDeleteLove this advice, but wondering if there's still room for the Clarisonic in your routine?
ReplyDeleteTried this routine for the last few days and I am absolutely floored at the softness of my skin! The breakouts on my forehead have not yet gone away, but I am dairy-free for one day now lol. Can't wait to see what happens! Thanks for the tip. I love, love, love your natural beauty posts. I have been trying to go all natural as well. Would love to hear your what you do for your hair. It's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThis blog and all the comments have been very helpful!
ReplyDeleteI have been dealing with skin issues for a while now. I can definitely see a difference after I exercise, and being on oral birth control completely cleared up my skin. I've stopped the birth control now as I'm wanting more natural things going into my body and the acne came back almost instantly. I'm thinking maybe I should try this dairy free thing as I know I have an intolerance to most milk products anyway. One thing though, how do you replace the delicious vanilla latte's? Almond milk latte's just aren't the same... (I know this should be the least of my concern but if I can find a replacement, I think it will make this transition to milk free that much easier!)
My husband and I are often joining other friends/family for meals, etc and dairy is one of the main ingredients in almost all the dishes. Do any of you have suggestions on how to nicely say you can't eat certain dishes? Do you let them know before hand and offer to bring your own dish?
Thanks for the inspiring blog posts Mara!

ReplyDeleteCoconut oil is probably the best beauty product ever. It cleanses, protects and moisturizes the skin. And not only that, it also helps make the skin glow and it can also help prevent acne.
ReplyDeleteFor the last month I have been mixing a drop or two of lavender oil into the moisturizer I use on my face. Lavender oil is anti-inflammatory and an anti-bacterial. It cleared up both my acne and the dry patches on my face. I was skeptical trying it, but I could tell a difference in just 24 hours.
ReplyDeleteI think I am going to try using coconut oil for my moisturizer and mix a little lavender oil in as a toner. It sounds like the perfect combination.
Im glad to come across this blog, it's worthwhile reading it. I just had flashbacks while reading some of you posts. Especially during my childhood days, seeing my dad using coconut oil for his vanishing hair because of stressful job he got, around early 30s his hair starts thinning and balding but thanks to coconut oil it helped. Also I can remember that he keeps rubbing coconut oil to us whenever we got mosquito bites or any skin irritations. But, those days are long gone and I just reminisce it now after reading your blog. I too is having problems with my hair now and I think it's more of patterned baldness or stress related, Im not quite sure. Thanks again, You guys reminded me of coconut oil. Cheers! -Vincent
ReplyDeleteFacial moisturizer, I was very scared to put coconut oil on my face. Since, I have had issues with acne.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on this blog Mara! I'm so glad I stumbled upon your blog. Do you also use apple cider at night because you only mentioned about it in your morning routine? I was just wondering if washing coconut oil at night would be enough to remove all the make up. Also, I worried about using moisturizer on my skin because I already have oily skin. What natural product would you suggest for moisturizers? What about sunblock? I have been using the BB Cream from Hydroxatone. It's working ok for me, I just like the fact that it acts like a make up. Lastly, any suggestions for mineral face make-up? Thank you so much for your blog and keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteAnne (Don't have a web ID and I don't comment on anything; this is actually my first comment and it was worth my time - this blog was just great!)
Thank you so much! I do use the vinegar at night...I guess I forgot to add that to the post. So I have still had great results using the coconut oil to remove make up - though maybe eye make up gets a little messy if you wear a lot of make up. You can always use a separate cleanser just on your eyes. But on your skin, I really have found that the oil, when rubbed in a lot - does loosen the make up and also seems to rinse off well. The idea is that oil cuts oil. I actually don't feel super oily after doing this, as I do the rinse with very warm water. Right now I'm experimenting with a few moisturizers. I'll write a post about them soon. as for mineral make up, I do have a bronzer by Bare Minerals, but I don't like using the mineral powder foundation. I feel it doesn't look as natural on me. I LOVE Dr. Hauschka's foundation, though.
DeleteAnd, thanks for commenting! So honored that I got your first comment. :)
Wow!!! Great post! I never knew that coconut oil can do such wonders on our skin. I only knew that it is best for the hair. I will def try this one out.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the coconut oil tip, I have pretty bad skin on my forehead especially and I also have sideburns which makes it even worse. I'll try to use coconut oil to see if it helps.
ReplyDeleteWow that is a great routine. I wish I found this site before Christmas last year. Got to love nature. I will began adding coconut oil to my skin regiment. This was an awesome post.
ReplyDeleteMara, Help! I just looked on Kiehl's website and it looks like your favorite nighttime moisturizer is discontinued. :( Any other suggestions from Kiehls?
ReplyDeleteI love coconut oil on my face as well. It has been the ONLY product that takes away the redness on my face. I have extremely pale skin so any redness is always enhanced. I couldn't believe how well this worked.
ReplyDeleteI also as you am dairy free. About 6 months ago my naturopath had me do an allergy test and sure enough dairy (along with gluten, wheat, and egg) were really high sensitivities. I have completely eliminated those culprits out of my life and I am never looking back.
Great Routine, i was searching for different Anti Aging Tricks and Routines but i might gonna give this one a serious try. Didn't heared about Coconut Oil yet, sounds too good to be true. Thanks for this informativ post.
ReplyDeleteNice Plan. I personaly have used Coconut Oil for my hairs to reduce protein loss only. I might try out this routin for my Skin too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips! I already use coconut oil for almost anything, and this pretty much reminds me of why I should keep on using it! :) It's really great not only for your beauty routine, but if you get any cuts, scrapes, or burns, applying coconut oil after cleansing helps because of its anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties, and keeps your skin protected. It's also great for your insides, and I have 2 specific jars... one for external uses, and one for internal! Love the stuff! <3

Thanks for sharing, The information that you have provided is very helpful.I really enjoy simply reading all of your weblogs. Simply wanted to inform you that you have people like me who appreciate your work definitely a great post.Hats off to you!
ReplyDeleteI find coconut oil waaaay to greasy for my skin - I have really greasy skin and have struggled to find something that works without leaving me all shiny. Then I found Arbonne! It's botanically based, so no chemical nasties, and it's clinically proven to start working withing 24hrs. I can use cleanser, toner, serum, eye cream AND a daily moisturiser without a hint of greasiness!
ReplyDeleteI used to use coconut oil on my hair too - same problem, too greasy and not enough of a result to bother with the hassle.
I found coconut oily too greasy to use straight up, as well. That's why I wash with it, then rinse. The residue left is not greasy at all. And it's even perfect for wearing make up.
DeleteAlso, oil cuts oil. So if you have oily skin and clogged pores, it's actually oil that can help clean it up.
Though - thanks for this other recommendation. I'd love to ck it out.
I stumbled upon your blog by accident, but, continued to read your beauty routine. I have pale redish skin and I thought I will give this routine a try. It's only been 2 days and there is a significant improvement in the redness and the oil leaves my skin so soft that when I put my powder foundation on from lancome, it goes on like silk, before, u would see every crease and dry spot of my face. Just wanted to say Thanks, I am so happy I took the time to read ur post.
ReplyDeleteI never knew that cocunut oil would remove make-up. Thats enough of a reason to grab some as anything. I really dont like the smell of conventinal makeup remover. Great tip!
ReplyDeleteI love coconut oil. Im going to try this. I have been using apple cider vinegar as a toner and it is amazing! The other thing that is truly miraculous is vitamin e. I squeeze a drop or two from the gel tablet supplement into my bb cream before applying and I look years younger. I've noticed it helps heal scars and improve wrinkles like crazy. If you use to much, it can look greasy but it will soak in in a couple of hours and look great. Probably more benefits that way if you have the time. I also love putting it around my eyes at bed time. Natural solutions are the best.
ReplyDeleteI just started using oatmeal washes morning and nite. After my nite oatmeal wash I put coconut oil on before I go to bed and WOW what an amazing job the two do together. My skin is so soft and my wrinkles appear to look soft and my skin looks radiant. I do want to incorporate the apple cider vinager for toning. Thanks for the information it was very helpful
ReplyDeleteMany years ago I read a book written by Maryann Crenshaw, "Natural Beauty". She suggested that you remove your makeup with olive oil, fill up your sink with the hottest water you can stand and splash your face 30 times, empty and rinse basin, refill with hot water adding 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and splash 30 times. Ive been doing this since my mid-twenties, I'm 62 now and have almost wrinkle free skin, I also make my own facial oil.
ReplyDeleteI used olive oil before discovering coconut oil. I heard both are great for anti aging. I prefer coconut oil cos of its good smell.

I'd like to take the power of thanking you for that specialized guidance I've constantly enjoyed viewing your blog.
