I saw recently that Gabrielle Blair's grandmother loved the color yellow and was known for that. I thought it was sweet, but I didn't really think about the color yellow again until now...
I saw a little tidbit on Oprah that said Gayle King uses the color yellow in her life as much as possible. Why? She says because "It's impossible to see yellow and not feel happy." She's painted her kitchen yellow, wears yellow, etc.
This got me thinking. Yellow really is a happy color. I think it really does make me happy to see pops of yellow here and there. Mood experts say that just like the sun, the color yellow is indeed associated with cheerfulness, optimism, self esteem, courage and energy.
So...I was thinking..in honor of our desire to stay on track and keep ourselves well this winter, why don't we all purposefully try to incorporate a pop of yellow into our lives? It can't hurt, right? If anything, it can just be a little visual reminder to us to be proactive about our happiness. Here are some ideas to get us started...(warning: I went a little crazy on this! And I'm giving away some yellow gifts from my own stash of Harvey Faircloth :)
1. Pinterest Board. I put together an all YELLOW Pinterest board. Might as well have yellow on the brain while I'm on the web. :) I can't lie, it's so fun to look at it and it makes me happy. Join me and start one! You can see mine here.
2. Lemons. I've been trying to buy lemons more regularly. I love lemon water. And lemon slushies (shaved lemon ice w/ stevia). OK, and this lemon image: Herman Miller Summer Picnic by Stephen Frykkhold, at the MoMa.
3. Front Door. Someday I'd love to have a yellow door. I'd take that with a cottage in the Hudson Valley :)
4. Vintage Collection. Heller. Dansk. Holmegaard. Pyrex. Take your pick.
5. Spring in a Box. One of my friends (none other than the amazing Brooke from Inchmark) used to live in Brooklyn and sent out these cheerful packages to help everyone get through the last bit of winter. Genius. See her awesome post about it here. (photos by Brooke.)
6. Bracelets. This would be such an easy way to add yellow to any outfit.
8. Artwork. Milton Avery / ki-oui
9. A Collection of Yellow Books.
10. Shoelaces. Danny and I both have yellow laces on our running shoes. I kind of like the hit of color as I go on my walks or runs.
11. Office Supplies. Post-it notes. Folders. Notebooks. Journals. We spend so much time at our desks and computers. It would be fun to see what yellow finds you could get at Staples.
13. Hand Soap / Bath Products. I have nearly an all white bathroom with black floors. I think some yellow products are just what I need in there. These are some great picks: Savon de Marseille, Mrs. Meyers, Method, Agua de Colonia Concentrada (this line of products from Spain smells amazing...I love the perfumed spray. You can buy it at The Bathroom store in the West Village)

15. Pastilles. I used to be afraid to fly and someone told me about Rescue Pastilles. I think they helped! I'm not afraid of flying anymore (actually due to all the things I now write about on this blog), but I still have these pastilles around and I just love the bright yellow tin.
16. Limonata. Our favorite drink. I used to stock these every time Danny came to visit me in New York. And I'd send him home with these on his late night drives back to Boston. They keep you awake!
17. Meyer Lemon Tree. I've wanted one of these for ages. These guys seem to know their lemon trees.
Cheers to more yellow! Will you join me?
OK, maybe I'm such a dork :), but if you have a pop of yellow that makes you happy, would you send me a picture? It would be so fun to see. (Simple i-phone pics will do.) Send to mara@ablogaboutlove.com with the word YELLOW in the subject line. It would be fun to share your pics on the blog if that's ok (send any of your blog/website links if you'd like me to include them. Anonymous pics are ok, too, if you prefer.) No deadline. Keep them coming whenever. :)

And last but not least...
I happen to have a stash of Harvey Faircloth from our first season collection. How cute are these Apron Tops? (They're inspired by an apron pattern from Katie's vintage pattern collection). They're made of 100% Silk Taffetta with a gold button detail in the back. (You can see me wearing one here.) As a thank you for all the support you guys give this blog, I'd love to give away several of these tops. If you'd like one, please leave a comment here - any comment will do - and in a week (on Nov. 26) we'll choose several people to receive a top. It will make me so happy to give these to you. :)

ReplyDeleteYou are so right! I was visiting someone in a surgical rehab facility the other day, and we were talking about what a difference it would make if the walls were painted yellow (of course, the already super friendly staff made the place pretty darn great, but you can't underestimate wall color!). ReplyDeleteI love yellow for the exact same reasons! You're so cute and the tops are very sweet!
ReplyDeletePS. I was in Brooklyn yesterday and was really hoping I'd spot you guys :)
DeleteYellow is also one of my favorite colors...in fact, my room growing up was bright yellow!! It definitely is a mood booster!
ReplyDeleteOh, to own a Harvey Faircloth piece! Now THATS a pop of yellow in my day :)
ReplyDeleteThis is super fun! Yellow is actually my favorite color! I didn't change it to yellow for this giveaway. :) Thanks, Mara and Danny!
ReplyDeleteHi there! Very long time reader, but I believe, first time commenter. And not just commenting—I also just sent you an email with a pic of my post-Sandy-pop-of-yellow :). Love the idea of a bit of sunniness in your day (and your closet!). Thanks for doing this!
ReplyDeleteJ.
Yellow was my favorite color for years and years, then I got kind of yellowed out, but I have come back around. The tops are beautiful. Also your blog has helped remind me that I do love my husband :)
ReplyDeleteYay for Yellow! I'd LOVE to win one of those yellow tops and wear it all 'winter' long...you know here in the harsh cold of southern Texas. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting such a lovely giveaway! This Thanksgiving, I feel like I have more gratitude in my heart for everything in my life, in large part because of the perspective that I've gotten from this blog this past year. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYellow is truly a wonderful and happy color. However, purple is the true love of my heart. :)
ReplyDeleteI Love yellow! A great idea to spruce up grey winter days! Thanks for your wonderful blog and the chance to win :)

ReplyDeleteI had a friend in college who LOVED yellow!!! Year round, she was always seen wearing it and talking about it. In fact, she invented what she called "Sunshine Day", which took place at least once a year (usually in the winter), and she invited everyone she knew to wear yellow!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I'd loooove to have a shirt like that! (As I say that I'm sitting in my office looking at a little bit of yellow on my color-coded, very full desk calendar.)
ReplyDeleteHi Mara and Danny! I met you two at the Red Hook Initiative a couple of weeks ago.....do you remember? I am a nurse and I told you that I read your blog?? I LOVE to own one of those cute tops! Thanks for blogging and have a great Thanksgiving!
ReplyDelete--Erika
Oh that is a great top and I love the yellow color. It's so cheerful. I always though I cuoldn't pull of yellow with fair skin but I'm slowly changing my tune.
ReplyDeleteOh I'd LOVE one! I would probably give it to my friend as a gift (I am no where near a sample size). I have a dear friend who would look great in it and after a hard year could use a bit of yellow. :-)
ReplyDeleteThis post makes me happy! Going to have to find some yellow for my house now :) Even sunny Texas needs a pop of sunshine in the winter
ReplyDeleteAmen to yellow! We've painted our babies' room yellow (and gray - chevron! I love! Husband is master painter!). I've been trying to incorporate yellow in my clothing and style - love the post! (and love the give-a-way!) :)
ReplyDeleteAhh so pretty, you've got me thinking about yellow office supplies
ReplyDeleteI love that top! You guys should know I quoted you regularly during my stint as RS teacher in our beloved Revere ward :)
ReplyDeleteThose tops are beautiful! I would love to own one! Great post. I feel happier already after looking at all those pops of yellow. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to wear yellow today, I think it'll cure my Monday blues!
ReplyDeleteI love yellow! I have a yellow jacket that I wear to work on days when I'm feeling a little down. Wonderful post, and great timing. I think everyone needs a little pop of yellow in their lives with the days being shorter.
ReplyDeleteI love color. Green is my favorite color (as my classroom surely attests), but yellow is a close second. When I lived in a basement room with only a small window, I painted the room two shades of yellow with a diamond pattern on one wall. It helped lighten the room, and constantly made me happy despite the fact that I was going through the most difficult year of my life to date. I've since moved and now my room is purple, but I often miss my cheerful yellow walls.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute top!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter has a photo I took of a yellow VW bus on her bedroom door. A little yellow goes a long way!
ReplyDeleteOh, Mara what a great idea!! So generous of you. I love the top. I have a collection of vintage aprons hanging in my kitchen, and I have a few aprond that remind me of that top. So fun! Thanks again for all both of you do. As usual, you inspire me.
ReplyDeleteKatie
Gorgeous shirt and love the yellow idea!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the top! Would be perfect to wear to my dreary accountant office :)Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteDarling! And so cheery.
ReplyDeleteLove it, and love the top! I've been drinking a lot of that lemon soda recently!
ReplyDeleteI love that top. It's so happy!
ReplyDeleteReading your post just made me excited! Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful top! I'd love to wear something like this after I have my fourth baby (which is soon)!
ReplyDeleteThat would make anyone hahahahahappy! In all seriousness, your blog makes people happy everyday. Learning to truly embrace (and not be afraid of) sadness in our life is what prepares us for feeling the true measure of happiness that God has sent out into the world for us to experience.
ReplyDeleteThank you for writing about it!
Love that top! My husband and I were lucky enough to have to same favorite color-- orange!! That gives you a little hint into our personalities. We love to be happy, energetic, adventurous! Yellow is happy and beautiful, while orange has a little bit of spunk to it. Love it! Opposites attract in some other areas, but our personalities and favorite color wasn't one of those areas.
ReplyDeleteI love to incorporate pops of orange in my designs, too (I'm an interior designer and soon-to-be architect).
Here's to a happy, color-filled new week!
As we head into what can feel like a dreary season, a pop of yellow is needed more than ever. I'd love a top!
ReplyDeleteI love those Heller round yellow plates, and happen to have five in my cupboard right now! How generous of you to host a giveaway from your own secret stash. Sending you and Danny so much love.
ReplyDeleteReading your post just made me excited! Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteI just love your yellow pinterest board! I'm going to start following you!
ReplyDeletePS. We celebrated our one-year anniversary this last weekend! Married in the Logan Temple (where my grandparents were married) on November 17th-- which is my parents' anniversary as well! A beautiful weekend spent hiking and relaxing in the Colorado Rockies.
ReplyDeleteHooray for bringing happy color into your spouse's life :)
Also, we're planning a trip to Massachusetts and New York in June/July next year. Can't wait to spend some time on the east coast!
This post is just what I needed today! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI would love a yellow top please! Beautiful blog Danny and Mara. <3
ReplyDeleteyellow is such a happy color. Thank you for the inspiration to look for yellow this winter. I am going to put pops of yellow all around me so during the dark days here in Canada, I can be reminded to be happy.
ReplyDeleteYellow does make everything a little more happy! Thanks for the tip! Beautiful top!
ReplyDeleteYellow really is a happy color! It's sometimes a hard color to wear, but you look beautiful in that HF top! And such a sweet thought to share it with others. You're an inspiration to be kinder and more generous to others- thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteYellow totally is a happy color. I love putting a glass bowl of lemons on my kitchen table - easy, pretty decor and they smell awesome too!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post- it brightened my morning right up! I'm definitely looking to incorporate more yellow, I forgot what a happy color it is.
ReplyDeleteSo cute, and this definitely made me happy just reading this post!
ReplyDeleteI'm kinda wishing I'd picked a yellow cast instead of my wicked witch green. One week to go then I get my foot back!!
ReplyDeleteOn the subject of yellow, when I lived at home, in the basement, I wanted to paint my room a warm soft yellow. My mom thought I was crazy but I tell you what, thinking about my bedroom back then still makes me smile and feel snuggly. When I finally own my piece of real estate, the first 'improvement' I make to the bedroom includes some yellow paint!
I love the color yellow...and your blog!
ReplyDeleteI've been waiting for just the right day to wear my yellow jacket. I'll think of you, now! I think yellow is the perfect color for a kitchen. I knew a home once who used yellow paint called "Mom's Love!"
ReplyDeleteWhat a happy post! It was so great to read this Monday morning after a night short on sleep and slow bus ride into work this morning! I'd love to win a top! I don't have anything with that shape in my closet and I think it is just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI would love a gorgeous yellow top! Your blog is my very favorite!
ReplyDeleteYou are so great! I love this blog and I would of course love to sport a cute yellow top. This is such a great post, I think I'm going to send out Spring boxes in late February, that's usually when I'm feeling the worst.
ReplyDeleteI redid my bedroom this year... gray, white and YELLOW! I liked the cleanliness of these colors and the yellow really brightens the room and helps me feel relaxed....just yellow pillows makes all the difference!
ReplyDeleteThe pop of yellow on your blog has brought some "sunshine" to the cloudy day here!! :) thank you!!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree! I always wear a pop of color to brighten my day....especially in these upcoming drab winter months. It puts a smile on my face and in turn can hopefully brighten someone else's day! Thank you for you optimism and daily doses of positive thinking! You've helped me make little tweaks here and in my own relationship and that have made a world of difference in how I see my relationship with my husband. Love you two!
ReplyDeleteMy parents decided to paint their living room yellow (like a goldenrod shade) years ago, and their house is still the warmest, most inviting place I've ever been. It just feels so incredibly happy. And that yellow top is GORGEOUS! I love the idea of pairing it with a bright lipstick too.
ReplyDeleteYellow is my favorite color...I never analyzed why that might be, but it IS such a happy color and I don't think you are a dork at all for this awesome yellow post.
ReplyDeleteYour blog makes me happy and helped me to rethink the way I see things
ReplyDeleteI love yellow! And I would love a new shirt.
ReplyDeleteI would love one! One of my favorite colors is yellow. In fact my bedroom and living room are both painted yellow. Will send a pic.

ReplyDeleteCute shirt! I'd love one.
ReplyDeleteThis would be a fun win... just in time for my birthday next week! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's funny- I've been on the lookout for a yellow sweater or scarf. I love to have unexpected pops of color in my home and wardrobe- keeps people guessing!
ReplyDeleteI would love to have that yeallow shirt.
ReplyDeleteSuch an adorable top! I would love to add a little Harvey Faricloth to my wardrobe :)
ReplyDeleteoh Mara, what a cheerful idea! I have always loved this shirt. you always look so cute wearing it (all your harvey pieces as a matter of fact are to die for!). Also, Limonata is my favorite too. Such a happy drink. I love the yellow post. I'll join you in adding yellow to my life a little more (especially if you choose me for one of these Harvey beauties!). Miss you lady! Enjoy your Thanksgiving, say hi to Danny from us!
ReplyDeleteGotta love yellow as it gets darker!
ReplyDeleteYellow is my happy color too! My yellow ballet flats are BY FAR my most favorite accessory! Your blog is like a pop of yellow in my life every day:) Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteI definitely need more yellow in my life! I started a yellow pinterest board right away, thanks for the inspiration, and your lovely blog. That H.F. apron top is DAR-LING!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea. I've been really drawn to all things yellow lately. This yellow apron top is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog and I've been stuck on it for about an hour now, you have such a talent! I literally cannot log off, haha. Love the idea of yellow, but I was wondering, how can blondes pull it off? I am a dirty blonde with olive skin, and yellow always makes me look like I have the flu, do you have any suggestions for how I could pull it off?
ReplyDeleteYellow is exactly what I need in the winter time!
ReplyDeleteAnd that top looks so, SO classy!
Love your blog! What a fun giveaway!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post Mara! I have been meaning to comment to tell you that because of one of Danny's posts I was inspired to check out a few books by Eckhart Tolle from the library. So transformative and eye-opening, and I am particularly thrilled with how he uses Jesus's teachings as examples of living in the moment, letting go of the past, etc. So thanks to Danny, and thank you both for this blog, which lights up my day.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
Yellow. Ive always loved yellow just for that reason. You can't look at it and now feel at least a twinge of happiness. It's almost beyond control. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the post, and wowza look at all these comments! I'm sure every lady here deserves a new top, so good luck to us all!! As for me, I've had a pretty lousy week and have also started my first office job (unrelated to my cruddy mood!). A new yellow top would be just the thing to bring out my brighter side again, thanks Mara!
ReplyDeleteI honestly didn't realize that yellow was my favorite color until I color-coded my closet- lo and behold, a good chunk of my wardrobe (and art... and linens) is yellow! Why fight a good thing, right? Like you, I would love to own a lemon tree, but so far have killed all houseplants except a cactus. Baby steps, I suppose ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the burst of yellows you posted here! That Pinterest page is so happy looking. I'll be keeping my eye out for yellow - that in itself will help me watch for reasons to be just a little happier! Thanks for the post, Mara :)
ReplyDeleteYellow is my favorite color - sheets, towels, antique yellow quilt on the couch, sunflowers on the window sill (when in season) - I love yellow. This blog post is an inspiration to add even more yellow into my life :-)
ReplyDeleteYes please! I don't have a yellow top!
ReplyDeleteCompletely adorable. Yellow was already my favorite color and that just added to my love for it. And the top? Awesome!

ReplyDeleteHi Mara. I love this post and I would absolutely love to win that yellow top. I promise you I would rock it. I have one of the vintage yellow pitchers shown and it really does brighten me up when I look at it.

ReplyDeleteI love the yellow! The top is so cute, thanks for this blog & the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteMarvin Payne (LDS folk artist) once wrote and performed a play called "The Planemaker." One of the songs in it was called "Yellow", about all the wonderful things that are yellow. My sewing room is yellow and I've worn the same yellow dress at all of my daughters' weddings :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post! Yellow, yellow, yellow. I am not usually the biggest yellow advocate, but after reading that post, I couldn't help but be in a happier mood. You are a beautiful person -- inside and out!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree! Yellow is the happiest color. I've been following your yellow pinterest board and it always brings a smile to my face to see such cheerful stuff. ReplyDeletehi ~ my internet name that i use for most things is 'yellowrose'so this made me smile. i love yellow roses they are supposed to signify 'friendship' in the language of flowers.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, what a happy post. I love Meyers lemon scented hand soap. One of my favs for sure. I'd love a darling yellow new top. Great post
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful idea for winter. I love it when people make a conscious effort to make others happy. :)
ReplyDeleteThe number 2 pencil skirt from J.Crew is what I wore to my son's memorial. Yellow, white and gray were the colors of his nursery, so it only seemed fitting to wear a grey sweater, white blouse and yellow skirt to his memorial.
ReplyDeleteI have lots of yellow in my house, and would love to add some to my wardrobe! Thanks for your blog, and for the chance to be gifted with this pretty top!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I never win anything anywhere and usually don't try, but oh what the heck, this would a great place for my luck to change. My husband and I have been changing our eating and exercise habits, so I am a few sizes smaller and enjoying it...a cute trendy super beautiful shirt would be crazy exciting. I love love love your blog and all the wonderful things you and your husband share. It inspires me.
ReplyDeleteSo adorable! I have wanted to find a great yellow top, and this one is just stunning. I love all your yellow ideas. Especially love that spring in a box idea...I'll definitely be stealing it. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, as usual, for your happy posts. You radiate yellow to all of us blog followers. :)
Yellow IS the happiest color! It makes me think of love & bright skies.
ReplyDeleteme! me!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great idea!!! I love the Rescue Pastilles. I have used them for years on occasion when they are needed. Amazing something so simple works.
ReplyDeleteWow - I've loved this top since I first saw it in the JCrew styling posts! Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteI watched Little Miss Sunshine for the first time Sunday night and love the idea of choosing to win- of working towards sunshine among a life of disfunction and disaster. Yellow does the same for me too! Great, fun post.
ReplyDeleteI've never thought about how powerful yellow can be in positively affecting ones mood and outlook - tomorrow's goal is to incorporate more yellow into my Christmas shopping and home decor! Thank you for the wonderful lift Mara!
ReplyDeleteI love yellow. I have a bright yellow scarf that I wear with my Christmas red coat. It makes me happy!
ReplyDeleteThis post DID make me smile...for many reasons. I too LOVE yellow. I wish I had a photo of them but I had a pair of yellow low rise bell bottom cordouroy pants when I was in high school that I wore with a yellow angora sweater. Love Limonata...makes me think of Brooklyn and have always wanted to live in California JUST so I can have a lemon tree in my yard. xoxo
ReplyDeleteI love yellow! And I have never worn it before... hmmm I hope I win!
ReplyDeleteAs I started reading this post I was skeptical of yellow actually making someone happy just by looking at it. However, I must say I am no longer a skeptic. Happy might be an exaggeration, but it definitely changed my mood for the better. Thanks for this great post - even those of us in sunny places (AZ) need a little winter pick me up every now and then!
ReplyDeleteA yellow top would be great! Thanks for all the time and energy you pour into your blog.
ReplyDeletenow that is a gorgeous blouse! love this blog so much. i am a bit of a lurker, but i check in every day. much love from sunny CA!
ReplyDeleteYeah, yellow! Love your blog of love.
ReplyDeleteGrowing up, I painted my gloomy basement room lemon yellow. After that it always felt cheerful and sunny.
ReplyDeleteOoo! I want a yellow apron top! Looks great!
ReplyDeletefun idea!
ReplyDeleteI NEED that top!
ReplyDeleteYellow has been (ever since I remember) my absolute FAV colour!! Now why on earth haven't I thought of incorporating something yellowy in my room myself!? :) Thanks Mara!
ReplyDeleteI LOVED this post. I so agree that yellow is such a happy colour. When I was in counselling several years ago my therapist used a technique called Interactive Drawing Therapy (you can read a brief summary of IDT here: http://www.aterc.com/news%20items/090815_IDT.pdf )and in my IDT sessions I had to assign a colour to certain things. Yellow from Day 1 was my God colour - I felt like it was the perfect colour to represent God because it is so full of hope!
ReplyDeleteStrangely enough though I have very few yellow items in my home and none in my wardrobe. How crazy is that? The top you are giving away looks incredible - as well as being so stylish it is so cheerful. I would love to be lucky enough to receive one.
I'm also thinking back to an earlier post of yours about the Happiness exhibition you went to. I'm thinking how most of the pictures you posted from the exhibitions at that event were YELLOW! Coincidence? I think not!
Hooray for yellow! I'm lucky enough to have yellow shutters and a yellow door, and they make my little room so cheery! And that top is just plain adorable. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLove yummy yellow, too. My living and dining rooms are a warm yellow that cheer me up very day!
ReplyDeleteI love yellow! Like you, I've always wanted a colourful front door. I love the bracelet and top too! :)
ReplyDeleteOwning my very own piece from Harvey Faircloth would be the pop of yellow in my life! :)
ReplyDeleteLove your blog and LOVE that top!

DeleteOh this is lovely... Yellow is by far not my favourite colour, but living in a grey city with grey weather and with my life turning suddenly dark grey too, I find this was the first thing today that made me smile.
ReplyDeleteWow, so generous! I have a bright lime green (kind of yellow?) throw blanket that I keep on a chair in my studio for a bit of "happy." Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteYou're inspiring! Thanks for sharing your fairytale of a love story with the world. I'll take my yellow tulips and 2 doses of your blog every day of the week!

ReplyDeleteI'm headed over to make a yellow pinterest board right now. And I will keep my eyes out for things that are yellow! Thanks for the post, needed this burst of happiness!
ReplyDeleteYellow really is such a happy color! Thanks for sharing how to find happiness through your blog!
ReplyDeleteMy twins are starting to learn their colors, and right now everything is "lellow". Hearing them lisp it so many times just makes me happy. If you don't mind, I think I'll call your happy color Maralellow.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your words of encouragement. You add more happy to the world than you'll know.
do you remember my yellow front door? i love it. even four years later i still smile every time i see it!
ReplyDeleteI love yellow in combination with blue! calm + happy :)
ReplyDeleteWe (my two best friends and I) have been playing Parcheesi together for more than 35 years. My piece has always been Mister Yellow, and I have always been supremely happy playing "cheesi" with my two besties!!! Maybe the yellow has a just a tisch to do with it ... and of course the love!!! Thanks for the sunshine. PS: the Parcheesi box is yellow; the vintage ones are really cool.
ReplyDeleteI love yellow :) my dinner plates are yellow and orange - makes me smile to eat cereal out of a yellow bowl. But, sometimes tea looks funny in a yellow mug lol.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting a giveaway!
I'm a big fan of yellow - chartreuse is actually my favorite color!
ReplyDeleteLove getting out some yellow on a sad day! My husband is in the navy and currently gone, so I'm always looking for happy things to brighten a sad day. Your blog always does that for me!
ReplyDeleteLoving the idea of incorporating more yellow in our lives! Meyer lemon trees might be the most gorgeous fruit trees ever. :)
ReplyDeleteA couple summers ago I took this shot of my garden flowers at sunset, and it always puts a smile on my face. http://thepocketchronicles.blogspot.com/2011/08/this-makes-me-happy.html
ReplyDeleteMy sister lives 1300 miles away, and I miss her heaps. I've been meaning to send her a "box of sunshine"--lemon drops, a new bright yellow scarf, some smiley face stickers for the kids she works with, a rubber ducky with instructions to take a relaxing bath, yellow peanut butter m&ms (I suppose I would have to pick out all the rest :-), and maybe a Yellow Pages decal with my phone number on it with instructions to call if she gets lonely.
I've been meaning to do this for a while now. This post gives me fresh inspiration!
nice! I used to post a frequent column on my blog called "a dash of yellow" where I would feature my favorite things with yellow. nice to see it here! I would absolutely love the Harvey faircloth top. I've been a big fan since the beginning and it would be a nice addition to my wardrobe especially as I move back to the US and start FRESH! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI love this blog and I love yellow! I never realized how much it can make a difference until I read this post and started to incorporate it throughout the week. It's the best!
ReplyDeleteHi Mara! Sending you subliminal messages. I love yellow (pick Jen). It's one of my favorite colors (pick Jen). I have seen this top on you several times and love it (pick Jen). I think it might look kinda cute on me (pick Jen).
ReplyDeleteI'd love to be picked for the top ... almost as much as I enjoy reading the blog.
ReplyDeleteYep - always have to have at least one yellow item in my closet - my hubs calls me his "banana" whenever I wear it! haha
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous top! I love having pops of bright, happy colours around - yellow or orange just lift a desk/room/mood.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the dose of happiness! I'm feeling inspired to bring more bright, sunny yellow into my life. :)
ReplyDeleteYes--color totally makes me happy! You're right on with this entire post, especially in the middle of a Gray Northwestern Weekend.
ReplyDeleteI just thought through my closet... and my house... I really could use a big dose of yellow. Flowers are my favorite way... but something that lasts would be bright.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Jerusalem! I didn't really plan it this way, but my Thanksgiving table was all decked out in yellow this year! :) Glad to know I was so up-to-the-minute on this one. You can see a photo of it on my blog. Of all the things to be grateful for, not letting a war get in the way of Thanksgiving has to be the oddest. But we are grateful for the promise of peace!

I would LOVE to get one of these happiness-inducing yellow tops! How fun is this!! Thank you for all you have helped me and continue to through your blog. I find myself re-reading your posts throughout the year to reiterate the things I've learned and need to RE-learn.

ReplyDeleteI love this post!!!
ReplyDeleteOmg! Amazing top. Would love to rock some yellow during these dark months;)
ReplyDeleteLove the top! Love your blog. Love you guys. Love all the love. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's no wonder why my mother's favorite color is yellow. She is such a strong, confidant woman. Love the color, love your blog!
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog, and really enjoying it! Yellow is a lovely color!
ReplyDeleteMara and Danny, Thank you so much for sharing so much joy and love. I've been reading your blog for about a year now, and I swear it was fate. Right after I started reading, my family faced a very difficult time. Our baby girl had had neonatal seizures and other health concerns that eventually led to a diagnosis of hypochondroplasia- a form of dwarfism. It was like your blog prepared me for that moment- I was able to keep things in perspective and tend to my daughter and husband's needs (he was not as emotionally prepared for the news), and now everyone is doing well. I started a blog to share our experience with others who would receive a similar diagnosis, and have met so many wonderful people through there. Thank you for all your work. And thank you for the chance to win such a gorgeous top- it would definitely brighten up my winter, and be a wonderful addition to my suitcase for my upcoming Puerto Rico trip.
ReplyDeleteWhen we first moved into our home, we painted the large swedish post box a bright lemon color and it's so wonderful and happy to come home to on a snowy Iowa winter day. Now it's the reference my children use for directions to our home- "the house on Summit Street with the yellow mailbox."
ReplyDeleteI'm blessed to be spending time with my parents in Southern California for a bit, and they have a gigantic Meyer lemon tree in the backyard. Makes me smile every time I see it :)
ReplyDeleteYellow is so happy and bright but it looks horrible with my light hair and skin! I love wearing bright colors though and pink/orange look okay! My old bedroom was painted a pale buttery yellow and it was such a warm, relaxing color.
ReplyDeleteWhat girl wouldn't want a beautiful yellow silk taffeta top?! And as the daughter of someone who loved patterns, sewing and lovely fabrics I appreciate its sheer gorgeousness! From an Aussie fan
ReplyDeleteMy sister's favorite color was yellow from the time she could say it. I think she could just sense it is a happy color--out of the mouth of babes, right? Would love the top!
ReplyDeleteI want to thank you guys for what you do and your message here. My brother suffers from depression, in fact, he was sent home off of his mission because it became so severe. One of the things I've noticed, is how when he gets outside, and can see the color of life... he does so much better than being at home in a muted environment. I love that you are advocating bright colors, how can anyone wear that color of yellow and not feel the least bit happy? I think I'll try to include more into my life, and maybe even my brother's. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteYou are amazing...
ReplyDeleteThank you
How thoughtful of you! And yes, yellow is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteYellow is so happy and how fun would it be to wear that lovely yellow shirt around spreading sunshine? I found a yellow something I'd love to send you if you would like to pass on your address to me: sallyglaspie at me.com
ReplyDeleteI saw it at the store and immediately thought of this lovely post! :)
Oh and if you haven't read this little gem of a book, I suggest it!

grey is my honest favorite color but people often say "grey is a shade not a color" or "grey can't be your favorite color" so then I go to my number two favorite which is beautiful cheerful yellow.
ReplyDeleteMy sister and I were in NYC for Thanksgiving and thought of your blog. We made it to a couple of your restaurant and bakery reccomendations and absolutely loved them!I was wearing the traditional black coat, but she had a bright yellow peacoat that looked wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy my a blog about love reading time.
Love,
Shelly
