Sandy Bake Sale

So love this.  Joanna Goddard is hosting a bake sale this Sunday…what a great idea.  (And these flyers, by designers Erin Jang and Samantha Hahn, are so freaking cute.  See more of them here.)

P.S.  We’ll be with a group of 600 volunteers from Mormon Helping Hands this Saturday and Sunday, dividing up between Staten Island & Coney Island.  I’ll have some meeting points and times available soon if you’d like to join in.  Bring: work gloves; rubber gloves to wear inside the work gloves; clothes & coats that can get really, really dirty; a construction-like face mask; work shoes that can get wet with sewer.

Mara, I have a friend who lost her home. She has many cats that she needs to find homes for. If you know of anyone who would like to adopt a cat, please let me know. My friend is willing to deliver the cats to a loving home. Thank you, Théa

    Hi Mara,

I was curious about helping with Mormon Helping Hands on Sunday, but not sure public transportation will take me there from Manhattan– what are the details?

      Hi Laura,

Let me give you some details:
      – Bring appropriate attire and sufficient food and water (sack lunch) for the day
      – Bring any tools that might be useful, and definitely bring rubber and or leather gloves (Mara and I wore both :)…though there will be some equipment provided at each of the staging locations
      – For Sunday Volunteers, you are encouraged to board the ferry leaving Manhattan at 8:30 am. When you arrive at around 9:00 am, volunteers will gather at the west end of the ferry terminal by the Subway Sandwich shop…look for the yellow Mormon Helping Hands T-shirts…a coordinator there will provide further instructions as to which buses to board to get you to the designated service locations.
      – At the end of the day, subsequent bus instructions will be provided to get you back to the ferry
      – When we get to the staging areas, groups will then canvas the neighborhoods to look for opportunities to help (there will be plenty of them)
      – For more information – a facebook group was created – this will be updated with additional service opportunities. Right now it looks like it is mostly geared towards the Saturday service…but feel free to look through.

If we happen to be assigned to the same neighborhood, say hi! 🙂 Thank you so much for your interest in helping!
