Boatlift, an Untold Tale of 9/11

I had no idea half a million people were rescued from Lower Manhattan on 9/11 by BOAT!  This short video, narrated by Tom Hanks, will give you CHILLS!!  It’s about the civilian seamen who came in droves to help.  Danny and I both watched it and couldn’t believe it.  It’s so incredibly inspiring.  (Thanks for sending, Lindsay.  You are right – human kindness and selflessness are all around us.)

So so moving! There is also this children's book about this same heroism involving a retired fire boat that came out of retirement to help on 9/11. The pictures are so beautiful and it is such a great book to convey to children, in a delicate way, of the history of this event. I think it is a must read for anyone and definitely brought some tears to my eyes.

I love it when his wife asks: "What if they are attacked again?" And he answers: "Then, that's something I have to live with. I have to do what I have to do". Beautiful!

I think I've seen this – I'm British and it blew me away. Somewhere along the way I watched another documentary about the medics on the ground and it mentioned this small hospital not far from ground zero. Again it mentioned the guys that had sailed up the Manhattan shoreline and got people off safely.

A friend of mine was holidaying in New York at the time. Due to the fact her friend had shift change, they had to change their plans and went up one of the World Trade Towers on the 10th September instead of the next day. I remember her texting me about it. She was irritated; not something you think about at the time, but in the longer run, thank God it happened that way.

God bless everyone who died, or who lost someone, or who were working in the line of duty. You will never be forgotten.
