A Red Hook Date Night

So...Danny and I did make it over to Red Hook for one of our recent date nights.  The sunset was just spectacular.  We also just love being in Red Hook as the waterfront reminds us a bunch of East Boston, where Danny used to live while we were dating.  Here are a few photos from our evening.  I think this spot might provide the best view of the sunset in all of New York City :)

To get to this spot, go to Valentino Pier in Red Hook, near Steve's Key Lime (an absolute gem of a place which you should definitely try.  Just follow all the signs...all arrows lead to the pies.  And definitely get that mini pie on a stick, dipped in dark chocolate :)

You can also check out the sunset views and walkways behind Fairway.

And if you happen to be in the area before closing time, you can also check out one of my favorite little shops, Saipua (on Van Brunt St.)  Stepping into their shop makes you feel like you're in a little farmhouse workshop in Europe.  They sell the most beautiful little handmade soaps, made from olive oil, natural essences and herbs.  Each soap is cut, air dried and cured in their workshop.  I used to keep stacks of those soaps around to have on hand for gifts.  (Though I myself could barely use the soaps because the packaging was so great.)

There is also an awesome bakery nearby called Baked.  I love the vibe of that place (and I had to laugh at their 'about' page).  And....oh my....here on their blog they have DIY Cheez-its!  What?!?  I freaking love those things.  (Not exactly gluten & dairy free.  But I'm sure someone out there can enjoy these little devils.)

I'm sure we'll head back to Red Hook for many date nights to come.  One of these days I want to take the Ikea water taxi for a joy ride to Wall Street and back.   (Update:  Free on weekends, weekdays $5, good towards a purchase at Ikea.)

Where's the best place to see the sunset in your area?  And...do you have any suggestions for date nights that can be basically free?

  3. What a wonderful date night! Here in Boston, my boyfriend and I love going out to Castle Island to walk our pup and enjoy time with one another. We usually go during the day, but we've been during the sunset and it is breathtaking!

I'm also really jealous that you'll be taking the IKEA water taxi soon! That looks like so much fun!

  4. We started compiling all our favorite YouTube videos that we turn to whenever we need a laugh. It took a few months, but we hit almost 3 hours one day on our channel and enjoyed a night of laughing our heads off at home- for free! We knew it was selfish not to share, so we blogged about it and shared the channel here: http://fridaywereinlove.blogspot.com/2012/02/youtube-video-date-aka-25-hours-of-free.html

  5. Amen sister. Love Red-Hook. And when the mini Kofoeds arrive, you can keep going! We LOVE eating out back at Fairway—the kids can run around and be as crazy as they want, throwing rocks in the water and chasing birds, and we can eat in pseudo peace. Double date bike ride soon?

  6. In SLC the entire east bench of the valley is pretty much a great sunset watching spot. One of my favorites is to take a mini camp stove, an ebelskiver pan and batter, melted butter and cinnamon & sugar to any good sunset spot. Delicious and beautiful!
