The Sun is Shining Brightly in Brooklyn

My dear Danny has been away this week....and by the time you see this post,
he will be back home with me.  Ugh, I'm so excited to see him I can hardly stand it!
I'm telling you, a day doesn't go by that I don't feel so lucky to be his wife.  I mean, to have a husband coming home to me, to have a loving companion.....holy crap - it's like the best thing I could imagine.

This week I'm going to take him on a little date to this spot where you can see
the most amazing sunset from the edge of Brooklyn...I think he'll like it.  :)  (go to Valentino Pier in Red Hook, near Steve's Key Lime - which you should also try.  Or park by Fairway and check out the walk ways behind the store.  The views are amazing.)

Welcome home, Danny!  (your favorite ice cream is waiting for you in the freezer.... :)

Do you guys take turns planning date nights or plan them together?  Danny and I usually just plan our dates together.  We love going to the movies, on bike rides, out for sushi, or to the golfing range.  We also love eating at the restaurants in our 'hood.  Being the spoiled brats that we are here in Brooklyn, we can get French, American, Japanese, Italian, Thai, Indonesian, German, or Vietnamese in 30 seconds, door to door  :).  But this week we hope to go on a "date" trip to Philly to see this exhibit, The Happy Show.  I just can't wait to see it.  My friend said it is incredibly moving and amazing. (Btw, her blog is one of my favorites.  I am always scanning her blog for date night ideas and things to do in New York.  She's always in the know about the cool things we all should be doing.)

pssst: the best movie theater is in Battery Park.  Of course you probably all know that.  I was way late to that party.

Have a wonderful Monday!

  1. We take turns planning date nights. In fact, we have consequences for not planning a date night. If you have failed to plan a date by Sunday evening then you have to give your spouse an hour-long massage. So much fun :)

  2. Oh we are big date planning people. I make the bulk of the plans-but he does a couple of cute creative ones through out the year.

  3. We plan about half of ours together and then try to surprise each other the other two weeks of the month. It's really exciting to have a little surprise where you're only told what the dress code is.
I think the important thing is going, and going weekly if possible :)

  5. Mara, you must share the deets on that magnificent place on the edge of BK! We are harlemites, but we do travel to Brooklyn from time to time. Would love to have a new spot to check out as the summer comes to an end.

    1. In Red Hook there is a place called "Valentino Pier", though the locals call it "Fireman's Pier" as it's named after a fireman. http://www.nycgovparks.org/parks/valentinopier/history

The views are amazing. It's right in front of the statue of liberty.

If you go, you must also visit Steve's Key Lime Pie, which is on the same street. Get the pie tart on a stick, dipped in dark choc. :)

  6. Now, my husband and I kinda plan our dates together. Sometimes I come up with something extra special and fun. 2 years ago I gave him a special gift for Christmas -- a Year of Dates. It was a basket filled with 12 envelopes -- each containing a pre-planned, pre-paid date for each month of the following year. I think he was touched by it, and it was really fun to enjoy our dates all year long. I shared everything here - http://shannonbrown.typepad.com/life_in_general/lets-go-on-a-date.html - and continue to share our monthly dates and ideas.

Dating your husband is good! :)

    1. Best idea ever! (reminds me of some prepaid date nights we got as wedding gifts. It was an absolute blast being able to go on these awesome dates as a new couple...and to have it all paid for in advance. It made it extra exciting.)
