Film Biz Saturday

One of our dear readers from Canada wrote to tell us about this great warehouse in Brooklyn (Gowanus) called FILM BIZ RECYCLING.  They sell props from film/movie/television sets.  She sent this link (from a Brooklyn blog that I already knew and loved) and I was intrigued enough that we headed right over there today to check it out.  It was worth the trip.  And the stuff was c-h-e-a-p.
I have a soft spot for the Saarinen Tulip Chairs.  Anyone who’s been to
Baker Camp knows why.  (I need to tell you all about this
mid-century camp in the woods that we go to every summer.)
This could be some cool, cheap wall art.
If I had more space I’d take every one of these colored glass pieces.
They look so great all together.
 The perfect carry-on!
Books by the foot!  In every color…
…or you could just settle for stereo equipment in every color.

Yes, the entire store was 50% off today.
And here we have the perfect couch to snuggle on and watch a movie.  🙂
I kind of wanted to buy all of these cheap paintings and tack them to my wall.
Danny wasn’t into it.
I loved these HOTT little numbers in shocking neon orange/red.

I’ve always had a deep love for laboratory glassware.  haha.  I’ve dreamt of having an
entire shelf of them in all shapes and sizes.

Why, hello there, lemon heads…Should I buy all these perfectly yellow National Geographics?
Yes!  Yes!  Yes!  (If only I had space for a several decades of you.)

But the greatest things I did today were…
-go on a run in Prospect Park with my running guru, The Mother Runner.
-Speaking of mother, I bought some apple cider vinegar with the MOTHA because anything this woman says to do with your face, I will just do (she has the most unbelievable skin I’ve ever seen).  Read all about her vinegar routine here.
-I had a lovely afternoon with my husband that ended with him playing the guitar, followed by a movie.  Couldn’t be better.
-I made my bed this morning (THANK YOU, Gretchen Rubin.  Do you know that the author of the Happiness Project says you’ll have more happiness if you make your bed each day?  Believe her.  Because it’s true. 🙂

What did you guys do on Saturday that was productive or fun?  I think it’s so great to plan little outings or projects that are set apart from your normal weekday routine.   Keeps life exciting.

Days that are productive AND fun are the best! I had one of those days yesterday. I woke up early and did some homework, did Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred workout, went to Starbucks to do more homework, and then went to a friend's place for supper and boardgames. (One of the games we played was Bible Mad Gab, so much fun!)

I LOVE BOARDGAMES! One of our favorites is "Smart Ass". Not only does it give you an excuse to call someone you love a Smart Ass, but it is a lot of fun.

What a cool store! I love all the colored glass!
My Saturdays are not usually much to write about, usually filled with house work, but this one was different…
    1. Took the kids to the Rec Center and my husband and I took turns swimming laps/playing with the kids to get a bit of exercise in.
    2. Went to lunch at Goodwood (amazing BBQ) for my father in law's birthday
    3. Shopping at Ikea (love) for the perfect little table for our living room.
    4. Put together the table while my husband was at a meeting to surprise him!
    5. Attended Stake Conference with my husband where Elder Richard G. Scott presided and spoke. It was amazing. Being in the presence of an Apostle is a beautiful experience that I will never forget. And being there with my incredible husband made it that much better.
Thanks for the advice about making your bed every day to be happy! I can't imagine more happiness, but I am going to make my bed anyway. 🙂

Look at you, putting together an Ikea table! It seems easy, but I think those things can still be tricky. I felt so accomplished when I put together a book shelf one time. 🙂

I think I need to try the vinegar thing. I'm sure it will make me feel 100% like grandma Papa. When I was little, and she would come and live with us for little bouts here and there, I remember walking past her room at night to the strong smell as she was rubbing apple cider vinegar all over her body. One of the memories I do have of her.

I didn't know that about Grandma Papa…haha…that's great. And well, that is one smell you would remember. I was putting it on this morning and Danny stuck his head in the bathroom and said – what on earth are you doing? Luckily the smell goes away pretty much once it dries.

This film biz stuff looks so awesome. Micah and I will have to check this out.

Oh, and I totally believe you that making your bed every day makes you happier. But what happens when it gets unmade and turned into a flying shoe within minutes of having been made? Every. Single. Day.

Next time in NY, I'd love to check out Film Biz with you. Those Tulip chairs – I'm dying. Purchasing them new is Outrageous.

So, if my housekeeper makes the bed, will that bring me more happiness, too? (being silly, of course)

Ohhh yes….housekeepers making beds? I think that sounds even better! 🙂

My husband makes the bed most days! That definitely makes me happy! We had the best day Friday walking through Central Park. It would have only been better if the temple hadn't been closed for maintenance. Saturday I was going to sort toys, I think I read a magazine and gave myself a pedicure instead!

I've been doing the ACV stuff for about 3 weeks (ever since I read Rebecca's second post on it, actually) – it's awesome!
Saturday was fun – I'm helping my husband train for his first half-marathon (I completed my first in November), so we went running. Then out to lunch, walked through a couple art galleries and then to a concert. A fun night overall. 🙂

Awesome to hear you like the ACV! I'm always excited to try new things. How cool that you guys are into marathons…I'm just in awe of anyone up for that.

It's a priority for me to make the bed, even if I don't get to it till late afternoon or even right before going to sleep. There's just something awesome about crawling into a made-up bed with the pillows nicely fluffed up.
