“I Couldn’t Help But Smile”

Dear readers – we miss you and we’re thinking of you!  We’re in Salt Lake City enjoying time with family and friends (getting our butts kicked in board games, playing with our nephews’ awesome light sabers, going Rambo in nerf gun wars with all the boys, and eating a whole lot of food, food, food!)  But, we’re also so excited to get back to our regular posts (and promise some of those will be coming).

For now…Danny just showed me a beautiful and touching video that I just had to pass on.  I want to show it to everyone I know.  It was created by an 18 year-old boy who passed away on Christmas Day.  He had a heart condition from birth and he and his family knew his time was limited.  He created this short video the week before he died.  His family found it the day after his death.  As I watched him tell his story (and as I watched some related news stories), I couldn’t help but be impressed by the peace that seemed to surround this young man and his family, despite the difficult hand he was dealt.   Truly beautiful…

I read a book about 15 years ago regarding people who have had "near death" experiences, meaning where they are clinically dead and then came back to life. Reading this book changed my view of death….no matter the person's religion or beliefs the experience was always remarkably similar. A bright light, usually a person was there to greet/meet them, and an indescribable and all encompassing peace so strong they never want to leave. I consider this video and other experiences like this recorded to be little testimonials and pieces of heaven we're allowed to glimpse. Thanks for sharing.

wow. he's beautiful. most days my biggest goal is to raise my two little boys to be just like that: brave and wise. and to live a life you're proud of- maybe the best kind of accomplishment.

Thanks for sharing this! My niece was diagnosed this year with a rare disease (hlh) and has had a very rough year. It is amazing to see the sweet spirits of these children who endure so much. It had been inspring to watch her go through long hospital visits, what seems like endless tests, and chemo which such strength and spirit. How wonderful to see the faith and strength of another young person who has endured more than most of us can imagine. If only we would all approach our trials with such a positive outlook.
