Couple Face

The name of this blog almost wasn't {A Blog About Love}.

Danny & I settled on future baby names in two seconds, but somehow thinking of a good blog name was torture.  TORTURE, I tell you :)

These were two of the other names we considered...
  • Couple Face
  • Can't Keep It In

Couple Face -  Ha!  At one of the Chinese sewing rooms where we used to have the HARVEY clothes made in the Garment District, this older Chinese husband and wife (the owners) loved me and they couldn't wait to meet Danny!  They always wanted to meet anyone I was dating, which was so sweet.  I just loved this couple and really miss them (I wish I had a photo of them but they always said they were "very conservative" and do not like photos of themselves.)

Well, when they finally met Danny, they stood back and smiled and the wife motioned to our faces in a circular fashion and said, "Ahhh...couple face, couple face!" and the husband agreed, "Ahhh....Yes, yes....couple face!"  Maybe it's because we were both grinning ear to ear.  Or maybe it's because we just have a similar look.  Lots of people actually said we looked like brother and sister when we were dating.  I think it was just because we were both glowing.  Anyway, "couple face" makes us laugh and we still call each other that from time to time.

Can't Keep It In is a title from a favorite Cat Stevens song (the lyrics are written on this link).  Danny and I love Cat Stevens and listened to his music a bunch during our courtship.   And well, that song applied to my life then and lots of it applied to me when I was thinking of starting a blog as that is exactly how I felt!   I really was going crazy wanting to get some of this info. out for you all.....  :)

But at the last minute we went for no nonsense...and named the blog exactly what we hope it to be, {A Blog About Love}.

XO,

Mara

P.S.   A few love announcements:

-If you visit New York, you really must check out this little treasure in Grand Central.   It really works!

-Swooning over this necklace (spotted on You Are My Fave.)

-This is a stunning addition to my already favorite spot in New York.  Makes me so proud to live in Brooklyn.  :)

-Some of the best wedding invitations I've seen.

-I could just about die over this savory gluten-free recipe - this will be my next dinner party for sure. (by the way, this is one of the best gluten-free blogs I have seen, shared with me by the most accomplished foodies I know.)

-Just bought pom poms to make this tree on my wall.

-This is one of the best Thanksgiving traditions I've heard of - especially great for kids!

-How to do a proper fake bob, by my own favorite stylist who left us for Paris.

-We just came across some new music by an Aussie, and we are loving it.  Danny bought his album.

-This is one of my favorite little girls ever & she's in the most adorable costume that you'll want to make next year.  Her mom is brilliant.

-Loving these posters from ModernPOP (originally heard about them from Design Mom.  Speaking of, you must check out her give aways all this week & get your name in.  Um, they will blow your mind.  Never seen anything like it.)

  2. "fu chi lian" in Mandarin-Chinese is a common term we use to describe couples that look good together / matches / look alike. It's directly translated as "husband wife face". The two of you definitely has that look, which means you definitely belong together :)

  6. Micah and I used to get the siblings thing a lot too. (Less now that we have kidlets.) My favorite was when we had been married for a few weeks and I went to BYU-H to register for classes and the person helping me mentioned something about how it was nice to have my little brother along with me. The little brother who was actually my husband. And half a decade older than me. It just makes me laugh. And happy that we look like we belong together (although I think he is much more attractive than I am, of course).

  9. Sally - I'm so glad you added that little insight! I remember laughing later because when they said it, they acted like it was totally common knowledge and age old wisdom that everyone should understand.

And yes...we do belong together :)
