We're All in This Together
I love thinking that we're all in this together. Meaning, we are all here on this earth with the same purpose: to figure out what the heck this life is all about and to work to triumphantly overcome all that we are faced with. None of us are immune to this plan. We ALL must go through it.
But once you understand it, it's a beautiful process that is a privilege to go through. And it unifies us all - each and every one...all over the world.
This was all very clear to me one evening when I was waiting for the divorce to go through.
Back in those days, I spent a lot of time with the dearest women on the planet - my friends from Brooklyn. That particular night, we all got together for a girls night at the movies. As I sat there among these amazing women, it occurred to me that EVERY SINGLE one of us were facing some MAJOR trials at the time... perhaps the most difficult ones of our lives! Look at this line-up: One friend had a sweet baby that died in the hospital just a couple of months prior. One had just lost her beloved father to cancer. One had just been awakened in the night a few weeks earlier by her 30 year-old husband who just had a terrible stroke / brain aneurism, while her two children slept in the other room (he lived, but was in very critical condition & had months of rehab ahead of him.) One dear friend just found out she had cancerous melanoma on her leg and was undergoing treatments, all the while being pregnant and having an already extremely high risk pregnancy requiring constant monitoring. And then there was me, with a husband who had just left the country, whom I would never see again. Crazy, huh? Just a few girls hanging out - all watching the same movie - all the while, our world as we knew it would never be the same. But it was an honor to be with those strong, amazing women that night as we laughed & talked. It is beautiful to know that we get to experience this life together. And that we get to be unified by our experiences, by our love and by our desire to rise above all that we were faced with. I watched with my own eyes as these women all faced their trials with grace, strength, hope & love. I am truly amazed by them & many other women I have met since. Their example of strength & faith will stay with me for the rest of my life.
Love to all,
